The Unbreakable Braid: When God Becomes the Third
"Good morning 🕊"
I tried that once, holding my world together with only two hands. No matter what I tried, It was always a frantic, exhausted, and losing battles. I was the one building up and my spouse was the one building out...
When we were on the same page we took turns as the counselor, accountant, the protector, and the fixer, managing every detail, until we were left numb, staring into nowhere and usless to anyone. We found the edges of our own limitations.
Now, I understand the terrifying beauty of Ecclesiastes 4:12.
It says that "a single strand snaps. Two might stand, but they still tremble under the pressure of the storm. But a three-stranded cord? That is divine alchemy!"
For me, when I finally stopped trying to be the center and yielded the controls of my marriage to the Creator, He became the third, unbreakable fiber woven into our very union.
By embracing God as the Primary Strand, I felt an almost violent wave of relief. The desperate need to control, the fear of failure, the compulsion to micromanage, all of it all shattered. I realized I don’t have to hold my spouse up; I just have to hold onto the One who holds us both.
Walking together in the same direction, tethered to His strength, the journey transformed from a desperate scramble to a purposeful march.
Lord, pull us close. Redirect my frantic energy from managing my family to leading them toward You.
Surround us with a tribe that strengthens our resolve. Replace our brittle, human efforts with Your ironclad, supernatural endurance.
In the absolute certainty of Your grace, I trust You to be our bond. In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
1 John 4:16 "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."
Matthew 11:28-30
[28] Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
