Jesus demands a proactive shift, helpfully serving without a request and turning passive tolerance to active adoration of our neighbors.
For years, I thought the goal was just to stop doing "bad things." But when Jesus transformed my life, He didn't just lift my guilt; He shattered my selfishness.
The Holy Spirit was, and still is doing a profound, radical inner work, changing my heart from focusing on my needs to actively seeing the needs of others through His empathetic eyes.
True, biblical kindness is not a passive emotion; it is a free-flowing gift of divine compassion.
The greatest evidence of a changed heart is not just avoiding sin, but knowing how to act with proactive, radical love when someone in distress arrives at my doorstep.
It is the grace of God... moving through me first, that will make me pause to ask, "How can I help? Or how would I want to be treated and responded to in this situation?"
I aim to anticipate needs, without waiting for some kind of request, then Initiate action. Let the grace moving through me be a "free-flowing gift," reaching out first, even if it feels uncomfortable. When needed, I'll pray as I seek to see others through "empathetic eyes" focusing solely on their cause.

Lord, thank You for Your shattering and transforming goodness. Mirror Your heart in mine, and empower me to initiate kindness today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone..."
Philippians 2:3-4 – "Do nothing out of selfish ambition... rather, in humility value others above yourselves."
In my own experience, embracing this proactive kindness as described in "The Holy Shift" has profoundly changed how I interact with others. Instead of waiting for someone to ask for help, I now try to observe and anticipate the needs around me, much like Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 7:12 encourages. This shift from a passive attitude to actively seeking ways to serve has deepened my relationships and brought a greater sense of purpose to daily life. When practicing proactive kindness, it’s vital to remember the biblical foundation highlighted in Philippians 2:3-4, which reminds us to act without selfish ambition and to cherish others humbly above ourselves. This mindset aligns closely with Ezekiel 36:26’s promise of a new heart and spirit—one that replaces a hardened, indifferent stance with compassion and empathy. I found that praying for the Holy Spirit’s guidance before engaging with others helps me see through "empathetic eyes," allowing me to respond thoughtfully, not just reactively. Whether it's helping a neighbor unexpectedly or offering support to someone in distress, I’ve seen firsthand how these small, intentional acts serve as a tangible reflection of God’s transformative grace. Furthermore, 1 John 3:18 challenges believers to love through action and truth, not just words. This resonates deeply when we consider the parable in Luke 10:36-37, where compassion is deemed the hallmark of true neighborliness. Practicing this daily encourages spiritual growth beyond merely avoiding wrongdoing toward actively embodying Christ-like love. By integrating these teachings into my life, I've witnessed a meaningful change—not only in my behavior but in how others respond, creating a cycle of kindness that encourages communal love and support. This "Holy Shift" is truly a transformative journey from self-centeredness to selfless kindness empowered by faith and grace.
