"The Schoolyard of Self-Righteousness"

"Are we trying to play the part of a perfect Christian when we’re all swimming in the same mire?"

Mark 2:17 "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

"The Pharisees thought righteousness was a badge of isolation—that holiness meant staying away from broken people. But Jesus shows us that holiness is medicine meant to be taken directly to the hurting.

He doesn't reject people for being spiritually sick; He rejects the pride of those who pretend they are perfectly healthy."

What makes us think we aren't swimming in the exact same mire?

A fallen world affects every single one of us. The enemy has no boundaries, and his traps don't discriminate.

Yet, it’s terrifyingly easy to slide into religious pride, hiding our own flaws while judging the people who struggle out in the open. We act like schoolyard kids teasing anyone who doesn't fit the "norm."

We trade cheap thrills for the cost of stomping on someone else’s feelings, and stay trapped in a world called

"It's all about me."

This verse forces us to look squarely at our own hypocrisy, change my actions, and completely drop the act of perfection.

If we're not actively bringing our daily messes, sins, and weaknesses to the Great Physician, we're rejecting our only cure!

It’s time to change how I view the people around me. Instead of dodging broken or difficult souls, I want to extend the exact same grace and invitation Jesus gave to Levi.

Lord, forgive me for the moments I let pride trick me into thinking I have it all together. Thank You for being the Physician who cures my sin and heals my soul. Give me eyes of compassion for the hurting, the lonely, and the lost. Help me invite them into Your healing presence instead of standing on a pedestal of judgment. In Jesus' name, Amen.

... Read moreReading the Scripture verses like Mark 2:17, Romans 3:23, Galatians 6:2, and James 4:6 reminds me of the profound truth that no one is exempt from sin and struggle. The idea that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" is a humbling recognition that we are all in need of grace—no exceptions. For me personally, I’ve found that acknowledging my own weaknesses helps me to be more compassionate toward others instead of judging them harshly. One of the hardest lessons to learn is to drop the facade of having it all together. It’s tempting to measure our spirituality or righteousness by comparing ourselves to others, which easily leads to pride and exclusion. But I've grown to appreciate that the greatest strength is in humility—admitting when I fall short and seeking healing, much like the biblical call to "bear one another's burdens." When I shift my mindset from "It’s all about me" to focusing on how I can lovingly support those around me, it creates a sense of community and shared growth. I also see how the "schoolyard" mentality of mocking or excluding others who don’t fit a perceived norm is dangerous. It reflects a lack of understanding that the enemy's snares are indiscriminate, affecting us all in different ways. Instead of distancing ourselves from those who struggle, embracing them with grace, like Jesus did with Levi, is a powerful step toward authentic Christian living. In my own faith walk, I try to remind myself daily through prayer that the "Greater grace" mentioned in James 4:6 is available, and God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. This verse encourages me to ask God for eyes of compassion and a heart that invites others into healing, rather than judgment. Ultimately, this perspective change not only enriches my relationship with others but also deepens my connection to God’s mercy and love.
