EP13: First Date But I Met His Mom?
Context: You know those guys who’ve gone on like… 800 blind dates and not a single one worked out? There’s always a reason. And this story of (XXX)’s explains it perfectly. Here goes her story:
I matched someone on Bumble, we added each other on tele, and I usually chat for 2-3 weeks, then meet. Nothing dramatic.
But this guy?
He was in a hurry. He wanted to meet 2 days after we matched. Super eager. Like he was speed running a relationship.
So I thought: Ok maybe the girls didn’t like his appearance.
If appearance is the only problem, I can handle that.
Well… turns out the appearance wasn’t the issue.
🚩 First Red Flag
He picked me up from work.
I got into his car, and after I buckled my seatbelt,
he started a video call… with his mom
And the guy goes:
“I met her.”
His mom:
“Show me.”
And the guy immediately turned his camera toward my face.
I was STUNNED. Rude much?
So awkward I just looked down to unlock my phone.
Then from the phone, I heard the mom say in a COMMANDING tone:
“Raise your head.”
Bro. I almost jumped.
I wasn’t being shy, I was SCARED.
After he hung up, the guy calmly said:
“My mom is really good at reading people’s faces. Every time I go on a date, I’d let her check first.”
WOW.
🚩 Second Red Flag:
We went into a restaurant, we just placed our order…
Suddenly a group of aunties walked in. Guess who I spotted?
His mom.
And then the worst acting ever:
“Oh?! You guys are here?! Wow! What a coincidence!”
I already wanted to go home.
🚩 Third Red Flag
Dinner was about to end.
Before I could react, his mom literally my chair over to their table.
I was SHOCKED.
His mom started commenting about my face, figure and even what I was wearing that day.
The guy? Still silent.
I took one look at the situation, stood up, bid my goodbye and LEFT.
The guy didn’t even get up to walk me out.
I don't need a mama boy.
From my experience, meeting a date's parent so early can be a huge red flag. It felt less like a romantic outing and more like a family interview, which really put me on edge. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, it probably is. Also, I realized that rushing into meeting so fast might be a sign of deeper issues. Normally, taking time to chat and get comfortable before meeting helps set the tone for a relaxed date. When someone ignores that, it makes things uncomfortable. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, remember it's okay to set boundaries, even if it feels awkward. You deserve respect without interference, especially not from a date's family members right away. Overall, dating apps can be unpredictable, and sometimes you meet people with unexpected habits. Sharing this story helped me see that prioritizing your own comfort and safety is the most important thing.

That is scary.
