If you’re looking for a quick and budget-friendly dinner idea that satisfies the whole family, savoury mince with steamed rice is a classic go-to in many households. What I love about this recipe is its versatility and ease – you can adjust the vegetables based on what you have on hand or what’s in season, and it still tastes delicious. The key to a rich, savory texture is browning the beef mince well and adding tomato paste along with Worcestershire sauce to build depth of flavor. One tip I found useful is to cook the onions and garlic slowly until soft and fragrant, as this step really enhances the aroma of the dish. Adding plain flour gradually and stirring constantly when pouring in the beef stock helps prevent lumps while thickening the sauce perfectly. I often throw in frozen mixed veggies to boost both nutrition and color without extra prep. Serving this mince over freshly steamed rice makes a comforting and filling meal that pleases kids and adults alike. Plus, it reheats really well, so it’s great for meal prep or leftovers. You can also customize it by adding some chili flakes for a kick or some fresh herbs like parsley or basil for an extra flavor layer. Overall, this recipe is a convenient and economical way to feed a crowd, no matter the occasion. Its simple ingredient list and straightforward method make it a reliable dish to keep in your cooking repertoire when you want hearty, home-cooked goodness without spending hours in the kitchen.
