01. Are there any traditions or cultural practices that matter to them?

Every family is different and there might be some practices that hold a lot of value to their family. Be open to learning about your partner's lifestyle growing up and how they celebrate or honor certain events in life. You might be surprised to find what you learn.

02. How would you describe the overall family dynamic?

I grew up in a very quiet household. I typically prefer that and have dated people who had similar upbringings. Maybe you have a partner who is quiet but actually comes from a loud family. Have your partner describe how time spent with the family might look like and how everyone communicates. It can help you to navigate and understand the best methods to bond with them.

03. What does their idea of fun look like?

This is a nice open ended question that I like to ask because it helps me learn what a great day can look like to my partner's family. Maybe there idea of fun can look like a day fishing in the lake or a day staying indoors cooking food together. This question can help you learn family values, interests, and relationship dynamics.
