... Read moreI'm still buzzing from my Palm Springs trip, and going through the photos I took with my disposable camera has been such a joy! There's something truly special about the 'life on film' aesthetic – that perfectly imperfect, grainy look that digital just can't quite replicate. Picking up that green camera and just snapping away, without endlessly reviewing shots, was incredibly liberating. It really encourages you to live in the moment. For anyone looking to dive into the world of disposable cameras, here are a few things I learned to make the most of it. First, lighting is key, but don't be afraid to embrace the unexpected! While bright, natural light (like what we had by the swimming pool as friends relaxed in their swimsuits) helps capture vibrant colors and details like the palm trees and colorful buildings, low-light shots can also have a moody, atmospheric charm. Just remember to use the flash in darker settings, and be ready for some interesting light flares or shadows. It’s all part of the film experience! I also found that getting candid shots works best. Instead of posing, I just let moments unfold, like us chatting at the outdoor table with our drinks. The disposable camera captures that raw, authentic energy. Think about the composition, but don't overthink it. Sometimes the best photos are the ones where you just point and shoot, capturing a feeling rather than a perfectly framed scene. This is especially true if you're in a dynamic environment, like a concert or a lively street market – focusing on capturing the overall vibe and expressions rather than sharp detail can lead to amazing results. Once you get your film developed, the fun doesn't stop there! What to do with all those tangible prints? Creating a disposable camera photo album is my absolute favorite. It’s so much more personal than just scrolling through a phone gallery. You can use a classic photo album, or get creative with a scrapbook. I love adding little notes, stickers, or even ticket stubs from the trip next to the photos. Imagine a dedicated album just for all your film adventures – a physical timeline of memories! You could also scan your favorite prints to share them digitally while still preserving the original physical copies. Having these printed images brings a whole new layer of nostalgia and allows you to relive those spontaneous moments over and over again. It truly makes the memories feel more real and treasured.
