Almost halfway! 🩵🩵🩵
Reached 18 weeks pregnant, and what an amazing milestone it is! It feels like just yesterday I was getting that positive test, and now we're almost halfway through this incredible journey. This week has been all about feeling more connected to my little one, especially as their development is just exploding inside. I love looking at illustrations to visualize what's happening, and it's truly mind-blowing! At 18 weeks, my baby is now roughly the size of a cucumber, measuring about 5.5 inches long and weighing anywhere from 5 to 6.5 ounces. It’s hard to believe such a tiny creature is already so complex! This week, their senses are really coming alive. They can now hear sounds from outside the womb, like my voice and even my heartbeat. Sometimes I talk to my belly, imagining them listening in. Their ears are fully developed and standing out from their head, which is just adorable to think about. Movement is also becoming more pronounced. While I might have felt faint flutters before, now I'm starting to experience what they call 'quickening' – those definitive little kicks and punches! It’s such an emotional and reassuring feeling. I can almost picture my little fetus doing somersaults and stretches in there. Their digestive system is maturing, and they’re even starting to swallow amniotic fluid, which helps train their digestive tract for life outside. Another fascinating development is the formation of unique fingerprints and toe prints – they're truly becoming their own little person! For me, my pregnant belly is definitely getting bigger and more noticeable. It’s a beautiful reminder of the life growing within me, though it does come with its own set of changes. I’ve started noticing a bit more backache, and sometimes my legs feel a little heavy after a long day. But honestly, it’s all worth it. My energy levels are still pretty good in this second trimester, which is a relief, allowing me to enjoy these moments. To help keep track of everything, I love using my pregnancy tracking app, which provides these wonderful illustrations that really bring the experience to life. Seeing the baby depicted as something tangible like a cucumber helps so much with visualizing their growth. It also helps to remember that I still have '22 Wks to go!', reminding me to cherish every single week. For any expecting moms out there, especially those on an IVF journey like mine, remember to embrace these moments. Stay hydrated, eat nourishing foods, and try to get some gentle exercise. It's a time of immense change and anticipation. Connecting with your baby by talking to them or just feeling their movements is incredibly special. Every kick, every flutter, every illustration makes this journey feel more real and magical. I can't wait to see what the coming weeks bring!
