Replacing the tiles damaged by ID during reno

Sigh. Spent my lunch time spotting damaged tiles and scrubbing some to remove whatever I could. ID told me to clear directly with the tiler cos she’s in a meeting but she’s the one who asked if I could come over during lunch.

She said she will be late and told me to go off first. So I went off but returned in the evening. Tiler did not off the lights in the unit which also means ID did not come at all.

Told her about the lights and all she replied was noted will inform their boss. Wow? If she came to overlook the process or check their work after that, then she would have off the lights no? I feel like I’m holding her accountable cos she’s supposed to be in-charge of this whole project no?

Another day of my ID losing her credibility.

... Read moreDuring my renovation, I encountered several challenges related to tile damage and communication gaps with the interior designer (ID) and tiler. One key lesson I learned is to maintain detailed documentation of all damaged tiles and the cleaning efforts you undertake to help before replacements. For example, if you notice stains or marks on tiles, it’s worth trying to scrub them carefully before deciding to replace. I also discovered that clear communication lines directly with the tiler can sometimes be more effective than relying solely on the ID, especially if the ID is frequently unavailable or distracted by meetings. Don’t hesitate to visit the site during different times to check progress personally—even if your schedule means stepping in during lunch break or after hours. A practical approach is to verify the basic housekeeping measures on site: for instance, that workers turn off the lights after finishing their tasks, which indicates that checks have been done. If you see issues such as lights left on or tiles left unstained or uncleaned, this might signal lapses in supervision. Holding the ID accountable for project oversight is important since they should coordinate and ensure quality control. Additionally, creating a checklist to track tile conditions—such as “5 tiles to be replaced,” marks or stains to scrub—helps structure your observations for better clarity when discussing issues with contractors. It also supports your case if you need to escalate problems to higher management or supervisors. Throughout the renovation process, patience and perseverance are essential. Renovations are often unpredictable, but by staying proactive and involved, you can minimize setbacks and improve the final outcome. Sharing these experiences and tips might help others going through similar renovation struggles feel less alone and more equipped to handle contractor accountability and tile maintenance challenges effectively.

stop overpaying for retainers😁
did you know….. you’re actually supposed to replace your retainers every 1–2 years🫣 whyyy? over time, calcium buildup + poor cleaning can lead to: bad breath 🤢 & fungal infections 😥 honestly… I didn’t know either until recently! I knew they’d eventually need replacing, but mine went missing
