Finished painting my Knight

Finishing a Warhammer 40k Knight is such a massive accomplishment, and I wanted to share a bit more about my journey and some tips I picked up along the way, especially since many of you seem interested in 'paintings' like this! This fully painted Warhammer 40k Knight model was a labor of love, and I'm thrilled with how the red and white with gold trim turned out. One of the biggest challenges with a heavily armored miniature like a Knight is tackling those large, flat panels. My go-to strategy is always thin coats, applied in multiple layers. It takes patience, but it’s crucial for a smooth finish, especially with brighter colors like the white sections on my Knight. I found that using an airbrush for the base coats really saved time and gave a wonderfully even foundation. If you don't have an airbrush, a large, soft brush and careful, even strokes work too – just remember to let each layer dry completely before the next! For the striking gold trim and metallic weapons, I experimented a lot. For the gold, I started with a rich brown undercoat to give it depth, then applied several thin layers of a bright gold paint. A wash of thinned brown or sepia ink in the recesses really makes the details pop, giving that worn, ancient look I was going for. For the metallic weapons, drybrushing lighter metallics over a darker base worked wonders for catching the light and making them look battle-worn and functional. Now, let's talk about that circular base featuring a lava-like design – it's one of my favorite parts! I wanted something dramatic to contrast the clean armor. I started by sculpting some cracks and uneven textures onto the base with modeling paste. Once that was dry, I painted the deepest parts black, then layered increasingly brighter reds, oranges, and yellows towards the 'hotter' parts of the lava flow. A glossy varnish over the lava really sells the molten effect. Don't be afraid to add some drybrushing of dark grey or black on the raised parts of the base to simulate cooling rock, adding further contrast. My biggest piece of advice for anyone considering painting their own Warhammer Knight, especially if you're looking for 'paintings' inspiration: break it down into manageable sections. Don't try to paint the entire model at once. I focused on one armor panel, then moved to the next, then tackled the shoulder-mounted guns, and finally the base. This approach keeps you from feeling overwhelmed and helps maintain consistency across the model. And remember, every layer of paint you apply is a step closer to your own masterpiece. Happy painting!
