This is an unnamed creature
This creature is featured in one of my stories I'm writing, and it is currently unnamed.
The story it's featured in is on Fimfiction, the My Little Pony fanfiction site. The story is titled: Shimmering Guardian.
The story is about a man who tragically loses his life, and is transported into a place called the void. while in the void, he is trained to protect the living and is striving for a second chance at a better life.

> "I want you to know this; Your world's laws of physics and reality? They will more than likely not stay constant in the world, or worlds you will go to. Now, knowing this, you must know about the several things that we will look out for and protect against." He moved a hand up to bring up a list. "First, we protect against all outside forces, such as other people... or something entirely different. In some worlds, if not all of them, pieces of darkness have leaked into them, like ink from a broken fountain pen." He moved the other hand to bring up a creature made up by a pitch black substance that had a glowing red eye with a slitted pupil in the center of its forehead. "These nasty things are what we are most concerned with when it comes to outside forces, and if there's one, there will be plenty more to come. They come in varying shapes and sizes."
Creating unique creatures for stories, especially in fanfiction, is one of the most thrilling parts of world-building! Like the unnamed entity I've introduced in my fanfic, 'Shimmering Guardian,' there's a special kind of magic in bringing a being to life that doesn't yet have a definitive name. It allows for so much flexibility and opportunity for evolution within the narrative. When I first started conceptualizing this particular entity, I knew I wanted something mysterious and intimidating. The description of it being a 'pitch black substance' with a 'glowing red eye' and 'slitted pupil' really solidified that dark, otherworldly vibe. It's a 'shadowy, humanoid creature' that evokes a sense of both familiarity and alien danger. Its 'sharp teeth,' 'clawed hands,' and 'muscular build' really underscore its power and threat, particularly with one hand often caught in a 'warding gesture,' hinting at its protective or combative nature within the story's void. Sometimes, in the creative process, these unnamed beings can feel like true 'experiments.' We try out different traits, powers, and backstories, seeing what sticks. This is especially true when thinking about the broad spectrum of fan-created entities. Many creators explore what might be considered 'unnamed furry experiments' – characters that blend animalistic features with human-like intelligence or form. While my creature leans more towards a dark, amorphous human-like shape rather than traditional fur, I find the concept fascinating! An 'unnamed furry experiment' might involve designing a character with distinct animal ears, a tail, or even a full body of fur, all while maintaining anthropomorphic qualities. It's an 'experiment' in how well you can integrate those animal traits into a compelling human-like character. Perhaps they possess the agility of a feline, the strength of a bear, or the observant nature of an owl, all wrapped in a unique, un-named package waiting for its identity to fully form. For my own unnamed creature, the 'experiment' was in crafting a being that felt ancient and primal, an 'outside force' that challenged the very laws of physics in the worlds my protagonist visits. It's not about being 'furry,' but about evoking a sense of dread and power through its 'dark, shadowy' form and singular, intense 'glowing red eye.' The challenge was to make it both terrifying and integral to the hero's journey in the void. What kind of 'experiments' in creature design have you all tried for your stories?
