Changing Your Drawing Tablet Pen Nib
This is for the Huion Kamvas Pro 12 drawing tablet pen. The process should be similar for most Huion drawing tablets. #tutorial #drawingtabletcare #digitalartist
Maintaining your drawing tablet is key to a smooth creative flow, and one of the most common tasks digital artists face is changing their pen nib. I wanted to share my experience, especially for those using a Huion Kamvas Pro 12, as the process is quite straightforward once you know how, and applies to many other Huion models too. Why and When to Change Your Pen Nib? It might not seem obvious at first, but your pen nib is a consumable part that wears down over time. I initially thought mine would last forever, but after a few months of intense drawing sessions on my Huion Kamvas Pro 12, I noticed the tip was getting a bit blunt, and sometimes my lines felt less precise. A worn nib can also potentially scratch your tablet screen if it gets too rough, which is definitely something we want to avoid! You’ll typically want to replace it when you notice a change in friction, visible flattening or damage to the tip, or if your pen's sensitivity starts feeling off. The Simple Steps to Swapping Your Huion Pen Nib The good news is that Huion usually includes a nib remover tool with their pens, often hidden in the pen stand or a small accessory bag. For my Huion Kamvas Pro 12 pen, it was in the pen holder. Here’s how I do it: Locate the Tool: Find the small metal ring or 'U' shaped clip, or a dedicated nib puller tool. If you can't find one, a pair of fine-point tweezers can work in a pinch, but be gentle! Grip the Nib: Carefully insert the worn-out nib into the opening of the removal tool. Make sure you have a firm grip on the nib, not the pen body. Pull Straight Out: With a steady hand, pull the nib straight out from the pen. Avoid wiggling or twisting, as this could damage the pen's internal components. It might take a little force, but it should slide out smoothly. Insert New Nib: Take a fresh replacement nib. Most Huion pens come with several spares. Gently push the new nib straight into the pen barrel until it feels snugly seated. Don't force it too hard; it should go in relatively easily. Test It Out: Give your pen a quick test on your tablet. Make sure it responds correctly and feels comfortable to draw with. You should immediately feel a difference with a fresh tip! Where to Find Replacement Nibs and Extending Their Life I always keep a stash of replacement nibs handy. You can usually purchase official Huion nibs directly from their website or through popular online retailers. Sometimes, they even offer different types, like felt nibs for a paper-like feel, which I love experimenting with! To make your nibs last longer, consider using a screen protector on your Huion Kamvas Pro 12 to reduce direct friction. Also, adjusting your pen pressure sensitivity in your tablet settings can help, as you won't need to press as hard. Cleaning your pen regularly, especially around the tip, can also prevent debris from causing unnecessary wear or affecting performance. Keeping your pen in its stand or a protective case when not in use also helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate nib. Happy drawing!
