bpd(borderline personality disorder) struggles.

I’ve noticed throughout the years that I’ve been splitting a lot when I have a favorite person and towards others as well and would like to know how you cope with it. I really don’t know what to do whenever I split. All I do is take deep breaths and tell myself that it’s going to be fine since I noticed that I do tend to split a lot. I also have an unstable self image and don’t even know what I like and what aesthetic I belong to.

Read moreLiving with borderline personality disorder (BPD) presents daily challenges, especially when it comes to emotional splitting — a phenomenon where feelings and opinions about others shift dramatically between extremes. Through my own journey, I've found that splitting often stems from deep fears of abandonment and uncertainty about one’s worth, which can feel overwhelming. One helpful approach is developing a grounding routine during moments of intense emotion. Besides deep breathing, I incorporate mindfulness exercises such as focusing on sensory details around me or repeating affirmations that reinforce my value and reality. This not only calms my mind but helps prevent impulsive reactions. In managing an unstable self-image, I realized that exploring various interests without pressure to fit a particular 'aesthetic' can be liberating. Journaling daily thoughts about what resonates with me or what I enjoy helps create a clearer sense of identity over time. Also, engaging in creative outlets like drawing or writing poems allows expression of feelings that words alone struggle to convey. Support systems like therapy, peer groups, or trusted friends are invaluable. Sharing experiences with others facing similar struggles reassures you’re not alone and offers practical insights. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are commonly recommended for BPD and provide tools tailored to regulating emotions and interpersonal effectiveness. Consistency in self-care—adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and physical activity—cannot be overstated. These build resilience and improve mood stability. Remember, progress can be gradual, and setbacks are part of the process. Overall, embracing patience and self-compassion, along with developing coping strategies tailored to your needs, can significantly ease the hardships of BPD and foster a stronger, more grounded self.
