... Read moreForgiveness is often regarded as a liberating gift, not just for those we forgive but most importantly for ourselves. When it comes to forgiving parents, it helps to remember that they were once children themselves, vulnerable and in need of love. This perspective shift allows us to see their imperfections with compassion. In my own experience, choosing to forgive my parents for past shortcomings required me to acknowledge their own struggles and the limited tools they had growing up. It wasn’t easy—it meant confronting pain and disappointment—but in doing so, I was able to let go of resentment and reclaim my own peace. Visual aids like cards or reminders that stress "release the past" or "set yourself free" can be powerful motivators in this process. They act as physical representations of the mental and emotional shuffling we must do to realign our thoughts. Recognizing forgiveness as a gift to yourself transforms it from a burdensome task into an empowering act. It shifts the focus from blame to healing, enabling a healthier relationship dynamic and personal emotional freedom. This freedom creates space for growth, empathy, and a renewed sense of power over your own happiness.
