Coyote

Having spotted a coyote near my parents' property, I realized how common these adaptable creatures have become in suburban and even semi-urban areas. Coyotes are incredibly intelligent and resilient animals that have learned to thrive in environments close to humans, often venturing into neighborhoods in search of food or shelter. In my experience, coyotes tend to be more active during dawn and dusk, but they can be seen anytime, especially where natural habitats intersect with residential zones. Observing a coyote at a short distance reminded me of the importance of awareness and respect for local wildlife. While they typically avoid human contact, feeding pets outside or leaving accessible garbage can encourage coyotes to linger, which can create potential conflicts. To coexist safely with coyotes, it's helpful to secure trash bins, avoid leaving pet food outdoors, and keep small pets inside or supervised during early morning and evening hours. Making noise or using deterrents like motion-activated lights can discourage coyotes from coming too close. This encounter near my parents' place opened my eyes to the need for community education about these fascinating but sometimes misunderstood animals. Coyotes play an important role in controlling rodent populations and maintaining ecological balance. Appreciating their presence while taking simple safety measures can promote peaceful coexistence in neighborhoods where wildlife and humans intersect.
