Looking for Camera Recs!

I am going on a trip in August and was hoping to be able to vlog my experience I have two different tripods and one of them is specifically for my phone but i was wondering if it might be worth investing in a smaller vlogging camera and or a point and shoot.

My current equipment is an Iphone 15 (just the base model) and an iffy Nikon Dslr that is a little picky about when it wants to work not to mention being way too bulky for my personal item. My debate is basically if i should just use my phone as i would probably have the storage space for plenty of video and photos since I do pay for iCloud storage. Thoughts anyone?

Camera 👍Pros :

-dedicated device that helps me follow my goal of not ending up on my phone for too long social media binging

-better quality photo and video (in theory)

Camera 🤔Cons:

-Possibly will end up bulky and force me to get a carry on to fit clothing and equipment ($120 added cost for my trip)

-Have to move video from camera to my computer to edit (not that deep but something to consider)

-More likely to have photos and footage destroyed if i accidentally harm the device

-initial expense of buying a new camera + light microphone etc.

iPhone 👍Pros :

-Auto backup to icloud even though im not sure how to access it off of my device

-Compact and already coming with me / planned space in luggage means no bag fees

-Already own tripod / selfie stick that works

-already own wireless microphone

-already planning on finding my old one/ buying a new waterproof phone protector since its a tropical destination

-have apple watch to use as remote shutter

-would be forced to uninstall some of the things i don't use which could help lower screen time

-would be a little more casual and i could pretend im on facetime

iPhone 🤔Cons:

-Phone might force stop recording because i legit have like 36 gb left on a 128 gb phone

-i have to go through all the apps and im lazy (not a real con but something to consider)

-buying additional phone accessories like a suction cup grip and all that to make it easier

... Read moreWhen preparing for a vlogging adventure, it's essential to consider not just the camera but also the overall vlogging setup. For travelers, portability and ease of use are paramount. While the iPhone 15 offers a convenient and compact option, small vlogging cameras provide enhanced video quality and dedicated features that can elevate the cinematic experience. Look into reliable brands, such as Canon and Sony, which offer lightweight point-and-shoot cameras with impressive video capabilities. Moreover, ensuring you have the right accessories can significantly impact your success as a vlogger. Consider investing in a stabilizing gimbal to eliminate shaky footage and enhancing audio quality with an external microphone. Waterproof cases may also be beneficial, especially when filming in tropical settings. Having a backup storage solution, like SD cards or portable hard drives, is crucial for managing your video files on the go. Lastly, familiarize yourself with editing software that allows for quick adjustments and improvements to your footage, making the editing process seamless. With these tips, you're better equipped to document your travels creatively and professionally.
