Don’t “should” yourself
One of my favorite quotes from a random book I read a long time ago was to stop "shoulding" on yourself.
Meaning that we women do so many things out of a sense of obligation, most of which are detrimental to our mental health. It's time to start doing things because we WANT to, because we are passionate about things, because it makes us happy.
No more should!
The concept of 'shoulding' often leads individuals, particularly women, to lead lives dictated by societal expectations and obligations. This practice can sap joy and create feelings of inadequacy. Embracing your true desires can be liberating and transformative. Author and motivational speaker Shakti Gawain reminds us that following our inner guidance may initially feel risky. However, prioritizing our happiness and passions is crucial for mental well-being. By challenging traditional norms that dictate how we should behave, we allow ourselves the freedom to explore our true interests, leading to a more fulfilling life. Incorporating self-compassion and mindfulness into our daily routines can be instrumental in this journey. Consider journaling about your interests, spending time in nature, or engaging in activities that spark joy. Surrounding yourself with supportive friends who encourage authentic living can make all the difference. Ultimately, the key to a satisfying life lies in understanding that it’s okay to say no to what doesn’t resonate with you. By letting go of the 'shoulds,' you create space for passions and pursuits that bring true happiness, leading to a healthier and more fulfilling existence.
