Okay listen. I can already tell this series has its claws in me and it is not letting go. Yes, I read them out of order. Yes, I regret nothing. Chaotic reading energy felt correct here.
Eva and Ash’s relationship? I am obsessed. Is it complicated? Absolutely. Like demon politics meets emotional damage complicated. Understatement of the year, honestly. But that’s what makes it delicious. Their dynamic crackles. Every interaction feels like it’s walking a tightrope over a pit of feelings they refuse to name.
And then. That scene. Jacqui crying over Meph and Meph thanking her? Excuse me while my soul leaves my body. That moment emotionally clotheslined me. I did not sign up to feel that soft about a demon, yet here I am wanting to wrap Meph in a blanket, hand him a warm drink, and protect him from the universe. Aurora Ascher really said “you will care deeply” and then proved it.
This book is funny, heartfelt, messy in the best way, and emotionally sneakier than it has any right to be. I’m fully invested now and sprinting toward the rest of the series with my heart wide open and zero self control. 🖤📖

From personal experience, what struck me most was how the author blends supernatural elements with raw human emotions, making the demons more relatable than typical fantasy villains. Eva and Ash's relationship, full of tension and vulnerability, perfectly embodies the messy realities of trust and emotion in difficult circumstances.
One moment that resonated deeply was Jacqui’s tearful scene with Meph. It’s not often that stories about demons highlight their softer sides so poignantly, which made this part hit even harder emotionally. It reminded me of how well-crafted characters invite readers to care beyond usual boundaries.
The humor sprinkled throughout the narrative balances the heavier topics beautifully, providing relief without diminishing the emotional stakes. This mix of comedic timing and heartfelt moments kept me fully engaged and eager to continue with the series.
If you enjoy stories that explore complicated relationships against a backdrop of supernatural conflict, with characters who feel deeply flawed yet incredibly human, this series is a must-read. Aurora Ascher’s talent in capturing 'demon politics' alongside emotional vulnerability keeps the tension palpable, making it a thrilling and emotional journey.
