in socal you visit a LOT of beaches

I have been missing the beach lately, so I made this post of my favorite beaches and rating them, most are very general because I’ve been to so many it’s hard to sort out the memories lol, my favorite by far is sunset ! Though I do love visiting any beach I can

If you have different opinions don’t be scared to write them lol

Belmont would have been a 10/10 but a stingray got me which I understand the beach cannot control but turns out there’s a lot and I am afraid

Southern California, with its miles of stunning coastline, offers endless possibilities, but finding that truly 'calm place to disconnect' can sometimes be a challenge amidst the popular bustling spots. I've spent years exploring these shores, from the iconic Santa Monica to the more tucked-away coves, always on the hunt for that ideal escape. When you're planning your next coastal retreat, especially if you're coming from areas like Santa Monica and envisioning a peaceful haven like Hermosa Beach, it’s all about knowing what to look for beyond the postcard-perfect views. For me, a true disconnect means fewer crowds, a gentle ocean breeze, and perhaps less commercialization. While places like Santa Monica Pier are vibrant and fun, if your goal is deep relaxation, you might want to venture a little further to find your Zen. For instance, Hermosa Beach, often sought after for its laid-back vibe, strikes a great balance. It has a beautiful strand for walking or biking, but it generally feels more relaxed than its northern neighbors. If you're looking to book a stay, consider guesthouses or boutique hotels a block or two back from the main thoroughfare to truly immerse yourself in the local, quieter rhythm. Many of my favorite memories involve morning walks there, watching the surfers catch waves as the sun rises, before the day officially begins. Now, if you're like me and value peace above all, don't overlook some of SoCal's other gems. Seal Beach, for example, often feels like a step back in time. It's quaint, with a charming Main Street and a pier that's perfect for a quiet stroll. It’s less about adrenaline and more about serene moments. Similarly, parts of Laguna Beach, despite its artistic crowds, offer hidden coves and tide pools that feel like private sanctuaries if you know where to look. I remember one afternoon spent just exploring the rocky outcrops near Laguna, feeling completely at peace. On the other hand, if you're aiming for a classic, sprawling sandy experience for long walks and perhaps some quiet contemplation, beaches like Bolsa Chica or even certain sections of Huntington Beach (away from the pier) can be fantastic. They offer vast expanses of sand where you can easily find your own space. Even Belmont Shore, despite my stingray incident (a story for another time!), has wonderfully calm waters, perfect for a gentle dip or paddleboarding, offering a different kind of peaceful escape. For those drawn to dramatic scenery and a sense of adventure, Catalina Island, though rocky, offers a unique disconnect. It's a journey to get there, which itself adds to the feeling of escape. Once on the island, you can find quiet spots away from the main town of Avalon, embracing the rugged beauty and ocean breezes. While the rocky beaches might not be for everyone, the overall island vibe is definitely about disconnecting from the mainland hustle. Ultimately, whether you're coming from Santa Monica or just exploring, finding your calm spot in SoCal involves a bit of research and a willingness to explore. Look for beaches with less prominent commercial districts, consider visiting during off-peak hours, or seek out areas known for their natural beauty rather than their bustling activities. My advice? Pack a good book, find a quiet stretch of sand, and let the Pacific do its magic. Every beach has its own personality, and with a little effort, you'll discover your perfect place to unwind and recharge.
