I saw a quote..

Yes my "mom" went through a lot as a kid and never healed from it. Her trauma carried over on to her kids and that's why me and my sister deal with a lot of trauma. As a daughter I get it, she didn't know how to handle things because she was raised differently but there were times where she should have known it was wrong. As a parent I could never treat my son or my bonus daughter the way my "mom" treated me and my sister. She could have gotten help she needed but chose not to because she didn't want to be "controlled" (her words). I broke the cycle and I give glory to God because I prayed everyday as a kid to never end up like her, God answered my prayers.

... Read moreThe quote "As a daughter I forgive you. But as a parent, I could never understand." deeply resonates with many who have experienced the complexities of family trauma. It speaks to the struggle between compassion and comprehension—acknowledging a parent's pain while grappling with the impact it had on their children. Generational trauma often passes from one family member to another, as unresolved pain and coping mechanisms shape parenting styles. Children of parents who have not healed may absorb emotional wounds, leading to challenges in their own lives. Recognizing this pattern is the first step toward healing. Breaking free from this cycle requires courage, self-awareness, and sometimes spiritual support. Many find solace in prayer or faith communities, which offer hope and strength during difficult times. The act of forgiving a parent does not erase the hurt but allows for peace and growth. Choosing not to perpetuate the same patterns for the next generation is a powerful decision. It often means learning new ways to communicate, setting healthy boundaries, and seeking professional help when needed. Therapy and support groups can provide valuable tools for healing trauma and developing positive family relationships. In the journey toward healing, it's important to acknowledge that every family's experience is unique. Patience and compassion—for oneself and others—are essential as new patterns are formed. Parenting with intention and love can create a nurturing environment that breaks harmful cycles. This story serves as a reminder that healing is possible, and that faith, prayer, and determination can transform lives. For anyone facing similar struggles, reaching out for support and embracing the healing journey can lead to a brighter future for both parents and children.
