... Read moreIn my experience working with horses, I've often encountered the phrase 'too much horse' or 'bad minded' as a quick judgment when a horse shows challenging behavior. However, it’s important to remember that what appears as difficult behavior can stem from various factors such as training approaches, environment, or the horse’s individual personality. Many horses labeled as 'too much' are simply energetic or sensitive and require a handler who understands their unique needs. Instead of dismissing these horses, I’ve found that patience, consistent training, and building trust can transform their behavior. For example, a horse that initially seemed aggressive or unmanageable often responded well once I adjusted the way I communicated with them. Additionally, some horses may react out of fear, discomfort, or confusion rather than deliberate defiance. Recognizing this helps shift the perspective away from blaming the horse’s mind or spirit and towards addressing underlying causes. Having respectful conversations around these opinions, like the discussion initiated with #bettybarrelracer, is essential to broaden our understanding and improve horse welfare. It encourages us to move beyond stereotypes and consider each horse as an individual, deserving of empathy and thoughtful care.
