DIY Greenhouse
I’m really big on finding different things around my home that I can reuse before going out and purchasing. Which is why I came up with this idea to use restaurant containers as covers over my solo cups to create a greenhouse for my seedlings. #greenhouse
Creating a mini greenhouse at home doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. By reusing commonly discarded items like restaurant takeout containers, you can build an effective humidity dome to help your seedlings thrive. From personal experience, placing these clear plastic containers over solo cups not only maintains moisture but also creates a warm microclimate essential for seed germination. When I started using this method for my onions and newly sown tomato seeds, I noticed that the soil stayed consistently moist without daily watering. This is especially beneficial during dry spells or when you don't have time for frequent care. The containers act as a barrier against drying winds and help regulate temperature fluctuations, which is critical in early growth stages. To set up, simply fill solo cups with seed-starting mix, plant your seeds, and cover each cup with a clean restaurant container. Make sure to leave some ventilation holes or slightly offset the lid to allow air circulation and prevent mold. Check your seedlings daily for signs of moisture buildup or mold and remove the covers once the seedlings develop their first true leaves. This approach aligns well with sustainable gardening practices by repurposing plastic containers and reducing waste. It is an affordable, effective way to extend your growing season indoors and achieve strong, healthy plants ready for transplanting. Overall, this DIY greenhouse technique is beginner-friendly, budget-conscious, and supports healthy seedling development with minimal effort.
