... Read moreIntrusive thoughts can feel overwhelmingly persistent, and I’ve found that openly acknowledging them is a crucial first step in coping. Sometimes these thoughts seem to win the battle for our attention, but through personal experience, I’ve learned that mindfulness and grounding techniques can help regain control. One effective method I use involves focused breathing exercises combined with labeling the thoughts as ‘just thoughts’ rather than facts. This distance helps lessen their power. Additionally, sharing experiences in supportive communities, whether online with hashtags like #intrusivethoughts or among friends, creates a sense of connection that reduces isolation. Music and art, including works from artists like Fetty Wap, often surprisingly serve as emotional outlets, providing comfort and a way to process complicated feelings linked with intrusive thoughts. Engaging with creative expressions can offer a healthy distraction and foster emotional release. Lastly, it’s important to remind ourselves that intrusive thoughts, while unsettling, do not define who we are. Continuing to educate ourselves about mental health and practicing daily self-care are vital. If these thoughts become unmanageable, seeking professional help is a powerful and necessary step toward healing. My journey has been one of ups and downs, but incorporating these strategies has made living with intrusive thoughts more bearable and less frightening.

Grief is a hard task.
Grief is a very hard task. It changes from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day. It gets easier for a time and then suddenly smacks you upside your head and inside your heart. There is no one simple or single way to grieve. Grief has a life and mind of its own. It comes and goes at will. So

Stop the ruminations and intrusive thoughts

Intrusive thoughts and the amygdala
Intrusive thoughts aren’t a problem to solve. They’re a signal to listen. When fear shows up, logic rarely helps first. Safety does. Try this instead of arguing with your mind: “This is my amygdala. It’s trying to protect me. I’m safe right now.” Say it gently. Slowly. Like you wo
