Is Solgaleo Still Good?
Okay, so many of you, like me, might be wondering: 'Is Solgaleo good in Pokémon Go?' It's a legendary, so naturally, I was excited when it finally arrived! After spending some time battling with it in various scenarios, here's my personal take on this majestic Sunne Pokémon. First off, let's talk about its unique typing: Psychic/Steel. This combination gives Solgaleo some fantastic resistances, which is a huge plus in Pokémon Go. It resists a whopping nine types—Poison, Psychic, Rock, Ice, Fairy, Flying, Normal, Grass, and Steel. That's incredible defensive utility! However, it does have four weaknesses: Ground, Fire, Ghost, and Dark. Knowing these matchups is crucial for successful battles. Stat-wise, Solgaleo has a solid balance of Attack, Defense, and Stamina. It's not a glass cannon like some attackers, but it's not a pure tank either. This balanced distribution makes it quite versatile, especially in Master League PvP, where it truly shines. Now, for the all-important movesets! In Pokémon Go, Solgaleo has a few options to consider. For Fast Attacks, you're usually looking at Zen Headbutt (Psychic) or Metal Claw (Steel). Zen Headbutt is generally preferred for its higher energy generation, which helps you get to those powerful Charged Attacks faster. Metal Claw is decent for Steel-type damage, but Zen Headbutt usually offers more utility. When it comes to Charged Attacks, Solgaleo has some great coverage moves: Psychic: A strong STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) move that benefits from its Psychic typing. Iron Head: Another STAB move, providing Steel-type damage. Wild Charge: An Electric-type move that offers excellent coverage against Flying and Water types, though it lowers your Defense after use. This can be risky but super rewarding! Flamethrower: A Fire-type move for coverage against Steel and Grass types that might otherwise wall Solgaleo. Personally, for Master League PvP, I've found a combination of Zen Headbutt as the Fast Attack, paired with Psychic and Wild Charge as the Charged Attacks, to be incredibly effective. This gives you strong Psychic STAB and crucial Electric coverage that can surprise opponents. Iron Head can be swapped in for Psychic if you need more Steel damage, but Psychic generally hits harder on neutral targets. In Master League, Solgaleo holds its own pretty well. Its bulk combined with its excellent resistances allows it to tank hits from many top-tier Pokémon. It struggles against powerful Ground, Fire, Ghost, and Dark attackers, so you need to be mindful of those switches. For example, Groudon and Kyogre are tough matchups, but it can put up a fight against things like Togekiss, Zacian (especially with Wild Charge), and even some Dragon types if you can land your charged moves. It's definitely not a cheap investment, requiring a lot of XL candies, but for dedicated Master League players, it can be a unique and valuable asset to your team. For Raids, Solgaleo is a decent Psychic and Steel attacker, but it doesn't quite reach the top tiers occupied by Pokémon like Mewtwo (Psychic) or Metagross (Steel). It's a solid choice if you need a reliable attacker with good bulk, but if you're chasing the absolute fastest clear times, there might be better options. However, if you've invested in one for PvP, it will certainly serve you well in raids too! So, to sum it up: Is Solgaleo good in Pokémon Go? My answer is yes, especially for Master League PvP! It’s a niche pick that requires careful team construction and strategic play due to its specific weaknesses, but its unique typing and solid movepool make it a formidable opponent. For casual players, it's a cool legendary to have, but for serious battlers, it's a worthy consideration for your Master League roster. I've had some fun victories with mine, and I think you will too if you give it a shot!
