Peace Lily Lagoon!
I have this lagoon aquarium set up growing live plants and peace lily out the top. I have installed a ultrasonic fogger that I have on a timer to make a fog over the water twice a day. If you have any questions feel free to ask 😃
Hey fellow plant and fish lovers! I'm so excited to share more about my peace lily 'lagoon' setup that I briefly introduced. It’s been such a joy watching my tank transform, and I’ve learned a lot about integrating these beautiful plants directly into an aquatic environment. If you've been curious about having a peace lily in your fish tank, let me tell you, it's a fantastic addition! Beyond just looking gorgeous, did you know peace lilies in your aquarium offer fantastic benefits for both your plants and your fish? They are incredible natural filters! Their roots soak up nitrates and other waste products from the water, which means cleaner water for your fish and less frequent water changes for you. It's like having a built-in water purification system right in your tank, helping maintain a healthier environment and reducing the need for constant chemical interventions. Plus, the lush foliage adds a whole new dimension to your aquascape, creating a more natural and calming aesthetic. For certain fish, the dangling roots can even provide shelter, hiding spots, and enrichment, making their habitat feel more secure and stimulating. If you're wondering 'how to plant peace lily in aquarium,' it's surprisingly straightforward! First, make sure you get a healthy peace lily plant. The most crucial step is to gently remove all the soil from its roots. Rinse them thoroughly under running water until no dirt remains. You want only the roots to be submerged, not any soil, as soil can foul your tank water, introduce unwanted bacteria, and upset the delicate balance of your aquatic ecosystem. Once the roots are clean, decide how you'll support it. The key is to keep the majority of the plant (the crown and leaves) above the water, with only the roots submerged. I've seen people use small suction-cup planters attached to the tank wall, or even just wedge the plant gently between tank ornaments or filter intakes. For my 'lagoon' setup, I've found a way to let them sit comfortably with their roots extending into the water column, creating that natural, emergent plant look. Think of it as a simple hydroponic setup right in your fish tank! The fish provide the nutrients, and the plant cleans the water, creating a symbiotic relationship. Once your peace lily is nestled in, care is relatively minimal, which is one of the biggest benefits of a peace lily hydroponic aquarium setup! They prefer indirect light, so avoid placing your tank in direct sunlight, which can also lead to algae issues and stress for your fish. The nutrients from your fish waste will feed the plant, so no need for external fertilizers in the water, which could be harmful to your aquatic inhabitants. Keep an eye on the leaves. If you see any yellowing or browning, simply snip them off at the base. This encourages new, healthy growth and keeps your plant looking vibrant. And remember my ultrasonic fogger? It's not just for aesthetics! Peace lilies love humidity, so a timed fogger or even just regularly misting the emergent leaves can help them thrive, especially in drier indoor environments, preventing leaf crisping and promoting lush growth. When growing peace lily in water with fish, consider your fish species. Most community fish are perfectly fine with peace lily roots, and some even enjoy nibbling on them (harmlessly, usually). Just ensure the roots aren't obstructing their swimming space too much. My setup supports a happy aquatic ecosystem, and the fish seem to love their lush surroundings, darting between the roots and enjoying the shade. It’s a wonderful way to enhance your aquarium’s biodiversity and create a more naturalistic environment for your pets. Setting up a peace lily aquarium is a rewarding project that adds beauty and natural filtration to your home. It’s been a fantastic journey creating my own little 'peace lily lagoon,' and I hope this gives you the confidence to try it yourself! If you have more questions about specific setups or care, don't hesitate to ask. Happy planting and happy fish keeping!
