Why Singaporeans Actl Love About Japan 🥹🇯🇵

3/10 Edited to

... Read moreAs someone who has traveled to Japan multiple times, I can truly relate to why so many Singaporeans find it irresistible. One of the biggest charming contrasts is Japan's relaxed attitude toward eating on public transport—something that’s quite uncommon and even fined in Singapore. This simple freedom turns daily commutes into opportunities for enjoying delicious convenience store snacks or bento meals, enhancing the travel experience in a unique way. Another aspect that really stands out are the countless shops that bring joy to visitors with niche offerings such as Gashapon capsule toys and Sanrio character goods. In Singapore, while we have some stores like Desigual and various international brands, the abundance and originality found in Japanese retail districts are hard to match. It’s no wonder Singaporeans feel like they’re missing out on this childhood nostalgia and quirky shopping culture back home. Japan’s distinct seasons also add to the allure. Experiencing snow followed by a return to summer in a short span is a novelty for many from tropical Singapore, making each visit feel like a fresh adventure every time. The well-known phrase "a strawberry a day keeps the doc away" fits perfectly here, as Japan’s access to fresh, seasonal fruits complements its rich culinary culture—from simple rice and ramen combos to exquisite desserts. Lastly, cultural norms such as strict rules on flammable liquids and cleanliness, paired with the politeness and efficiency of Japanese society, create a travel environment that feels safe and comforting. These subtle differences, along with the vibrant street life and beautiful landscapes, help explain why Singaporeans truly love and often long to return to Japan.
