JIUZHAIGOU — WHAT TO DO, WHERE TO GO ✨😍✨

My last trip to China was nearly 10 years ago — and to the main cities Beijing and Shanghai no less. So much has changed about China in those years. One of the biggest, most impressive changes is its infrastructure.

It opened the doors to see lesser-known parts of China like Jiuzhaigou (where tourism is a double-edged sword but that’s a story for a different time).

For now, make plans and head down. The park alone makes the journey worthwhile! ⭐️

The park’s crystal-clear emerald lakes offer a mesmerizing sight, with waters so clear you might underestimate their depth—sometimes as deep as 6 to 7 meters. Be sure to prepare for the altitude; the park ranges from 1990m to over 4700m, so if you're not accustomed to higher elevations, take it slow to avoid breathlessness on steep hikes. If you’re curious about local culture, many hotels arrange visits to Tibetan homes, where you can enjoy warm hospitality and learn to make traditional dishes like barley tea and tsampa. These cultural experiences add a rich layer to your adventure beyond natural scenery. Getting there is surprisingly convenient thanks to China’s advanced infrastructure. From Chengdu East Railway Station, a high-speed train to Huanglong Jiuzhai Station takes about 90 minutes and costs around $25 one way, bookable through popular platforms like Klook or Trip.com. From the station, the park is about a 2-hour drive; you can take a shuttle bus or arrange transport through your accommodation. For accommodations, choices range from affordable local inns starting at $50 per night to international hotel brands like Hilton and Wyndham. Many shops, including familiar brands like Adidas, Nike, and Starbucks, operate seasonally in nearby towns, blending modern comforts with the natural and cultural charm of Jiuzhaigou. Travelers often wonder if Jiuzhaigou is suitable for elderly visitors. While some walking trails can be challenging due to altitude and inclines, there are easier paths and plenty of transport options within the park, making it accessible for many. Planning a 3-day, 2-night itinerary allows enough time to fully appreciate the park’s highlights and nearby attractions while acclimating to the altitude. Pro tip: Fly directly into Chengdu for the best access and allow a buffer day before and after your Jiuzhaigou visit to make the most of your trip. This way, you can enjoy both the vibrant city and the tranquil natural beauty of Jiuzhaigou with ease.
