How to enjoy Lake Como in low season 🇮🇹

One of the best decisions we made for the end of the year in 2025 was to book a round trip flight to Milan and detour to Como for 4D3N!

Winter is low season so quite a few shops might stay closed but there’s still enough to do and see (especially to see!!! like mountains and the lake 😍).

Don’t pass on:

📍Pasta Bar for the carbonara

📍 Pizzeria Ristorante Donnarumma for any pizza (the dough is chewy and nicely charred)

📍Tyamoo for Risotto alla Milanese and the burrata pasta

✨ A boat tour (check Viator or Getyourguide)

✨ A land tour (check Viator or Getyourguide) or take your time with public buses

✨A long walk around Como and the lake

✨Taking LOTS of photos!!! Como and its surrounding towns are so so photogenic

Gonna follow up with a post on how to explore Milan in low season but let me know if I can furnish with more info! Happy travels ✈️

Como
1/17 Edited to

... Read moreTraveling to Lake Como in the off-season offers a unique experience that differs greatly from the bustling summer months. One key aspect to keep in mind is the winter ferry schedule, which is reduced compared to peak season. I found that while some ferry routes operate less frequently, services to popular towns like Bellagio and Menaggio still run, so planning ahead is important to avoid long waits. Accommodations tend to be more affordable and less crowded, which adds to the relaxed vibe of the stay. Staying in an Airbnb just minutes from the lake allowed me to easily stroll along the waterfront and soak in the stunning mountain scenery. Many popular villas, such as Villa del Balbianello—famous for appearances in movies like Star Wars and James Bond—may be temporarily closed or have limited access, so it’s good to verify current openings before your visit. Dining options may be limited since some restaurants close for the season. However, I highly recommend savoring Italian classics at open spots like Pasta Bar for their delicious carbonara and Pizzeria Ristorante Donnarumma for authentic, chewy pizzas. These meals perfectly complemented chilly evenings after a day exploring. For getting around, public buses remain a convenient and affordable alternative to ferry rides. I enjoyed leisurely walks around Como and nearby towns, capturing countless photos of the photogenic landscapes and charming streets. Overall, visiting Lake Como in winter was a delightful experience filled with tranquility, beautiful views, and tasty local cuisine. Just remember to check ferry timings in advance, embrace the slower pace, and enjoy the peaceful side of this iconic Italian destination.
