I’m so incredibly thrilled to be starting my BFA in Graphic Design this March after completing my associate degree in graphic arts communication and media production. That moment I received my SCAD acceptance letter was one of pure joy and relief – all the hard work felt worth it! I remember the intense preparation for my portfolio, carefully selecting pieces that truly represented my passion and skills. It felt like I was putting my heart on display, hoping it would resonate with the admissions team. And it did! Choosing SCAD for my bachelor's was a no-brainer for me, especially after exploring so many options. The Savannah College of Art and Design's reputation for fostering creative talent and its incredible resources for graphic design students truly stood out. I spent hours researching the SCAD graphic design curriculum, poring over student portfolios, and imagining myself in those creative spaces. What excites me most about the program is its comprehensive approach. I'm eager to dive deep into typography, branding, motion graphics, UI/UX design, and even specialized areas like packaging design focus, which I know SCAD excels in. The idea of crafting visual experiences that communicate effectively and beautifully is what drives me. It’s not just about learning software; it’s about understanding design thinking, solving real-world problems, and developing a unique artistic voice – all crucial elements that truly prepare you for diverse creative careers in this dynamic field. I’m particularly excited about the opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, which I hear are a hallmark of the SCAD experience. I considered different pathways, including SCAD online graphic design, which offers amazing flexibility and allows students to learn from anywhere. While the online program is fantastic for many, offering the same rigorous curriculum, I ultimately decided that the on-campus experience, with its vibrant community, bustling studios, and direct access to faculty, was the right fit for me at this stage. I’m really looking forward to immersing myself in the creative energy of Savannah, joining student organizations, and getting direct, in-person feedback from professors who are leaders and innovators in the industry. Preparing for this new chapter has been exhilarating. I’ve been building out my portfolio, sketching ideas, trying new design software, and even reading up on the history of graphic design to get a head start on some principles. It feels like a fresh start, a true adventure, and I’m ready to embrace all the challenges and growth that come with this BFA journey. The thought of being part of the SCAD community, learning from the best, and transforming my passion into a profession makes me incredibly eager. I can’t wait to share more about my SCAD experiences, the projects I’ll be working on, and how the curriculum unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates on my college diary – it’s going to be an inspiring ride!
