HAIR TALK

safe space for all hair types !

• keep in mind, everyone's hair is different, just because you have the same hair type doesn't mean it will look exactly like others

• hair type is dependent on a lot of factors, including texture & porosity

• it is definitely possibly to have multiple different hair types/curl patterns on different parts of your scalp

• learn to work with your hair & figure out what products are best for you

personally, I have very long, thick, low porosity 4A/4B hair, but I have sections that are 3C & one specific section that is 2A. Different textures/curl patterns isn't always a sign of damage, sometimes your hair just grows in differently ! This is especially prevalent with mixed race people like myself. If you need any tips or recommendations for products/styling 4A/4B hair I'd be happy to give my advice, but I am NOT a professional in any way & can only tell you what has worked best from my experience lol. also curls may look different depending on if they are defined or not / what products you use !!

... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you're here in this safe space for all things hair. You know, figuring out your exact hair type can feel like solving a puzzle, especially when you see all those charts with numbers and letters. The OCR-identified chart in this post, showing everything from straight to coily, is such a fantastic starting point! It really helps visualize those different curl patterns. Many of you are looking for specific examples of wavy (Type 2) and curly (Type 3) hair, and I totally get it – these can be some of the trickiest to pinpoint! Let's dive a little deeper into what each of these types generally looks like, drawing from the illustrations and examples you see in the charts. Understanding Your Wavy Hair (Type 2): The Gentle Undulation Type 2 hair is all about those beautiful waves, ranging from a soft S-shape to a more defined curl. It usually lies flatter at the root and forms 'deep waves' from mid-length to the ends. 2A Wavy Hair: Think of those 'pin straight - slight wave' examples from the chart. This hair type is characterized by very loose, barely-there waves. It's often mistaken for straight hair, but if you look closely, you'll see a gentle bend. It tends to be fine and easy to straighten or curl. My personal experience with 2A sections is that they can be very responsive to heat styling but also lose definition easily without the right product. 2B Wavy Hair: This is where the 'loose waves' start to become more apparent, forming a more defined S-shape. It's still relatively close to the head but has a clear wavy pattern throughout. 2B hair usually has a medium texture. 2C Wavy Hair: Here, the waves are 'tighter waves/loose curls', becoming more defined and starting closer to the roots. You might even see some loose spirals mixed in. This type often has a coarser texture and can be prone to frizz. Caring for Wavy Hair: For Type 2 hair, the key is usually lightweight products that won't weigh down your waves. Think mousses, light gels, and curl creams. Scrunching your hair while wet and letting it air dry or diffusing on a low setting can really enhance those natural 'deep waves'. Avoid heavy butter or oils unless your hair is particularly dry, as they can pull out the wave pattern. Unlocking Your Curly Hair (Type 3): The Spiraled Beauty Type 3 hair boasts true curls, forming distinct spirals that can range from loose loops to tight corkscrews. Unlike wavy hair, Type 3 curls usually start from the roots. 3A Curly Hair: These are 'loose curls'—large, shiny, well-defined spirals that are about the size of a sidewalk chalk stick. They tend to be bouncy and voluminous. 3B Curly Hair: Moving to 'defined curls', these are tighter, more springy curls, often the size of a marker. They have more volume at the root and tend to be denser. Many of you search for '3b curly hair tight ringlets', and this is exactly it – beautiful, tight spirals! 3C Curly Hair: These are 'very tight curls', even tighter and more densely packed corkscrews, often the size of a pencil. This type offers incredible volume but can also be more prone to dryness and shrinkage. I personally have sections of 3C, and I find they need a lot of moisture to stay happy and defined. Caring for Curly Hair: Moisture is paramount for Type 3 hair! Look for hydrating shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in products. Deep conditioning regularly is a game-changer. Techniques like "squish to condish" can help lock in moisture and encourage curl formation. Minimize brushing when dry to prevent frizz and disruption of your natural 'curl patterns'. Instead, detangle gently when wet with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. For those 'defined curls', a strong-hold gel or cream can help them last longer. Remember what I said earlier: it's totally normal to have multiple 'curl patterns' on different parts of your scalp! My hair is a mix of 4A/4B, with sections of 3C and even 2A. This is why understanding the full 'hair curl types chart 2a 2b 2c 3a 3b 3c' is so crucial. Don't get hung up on fitting into one box. The goal is to learn what works best for your unique strands, embracing every 'tight curls' to 'loose waves' and finding products that nourish all of them. The journey to understanding your hair is truly personal, and these classifications are just tools to guide you.

Someone Talk Me Out Of This 🫣
I have always had long hair. The last time I got a shorter cut was halfway through my pregnancy last summer. Now my hair has grown out and I’m considering going even shorter 😂. Should I do this? Should I get bangs? I love a cute shaggy look but I don’t have the time to maintain that look right now
