I didn’t think my crazy Master’s would be the thing that got me hired—until it was the first thing they brought up.
My Master’s program combined Exercise Science, Marketing, and Marriage & Family Therapy. It wasn’t a traditional track, and I honestly worried it might make me look scattered. But after I landed my current job, my new team told me that exact combination is what made my resume stand out! It felt great to hear (and tell my parents 🤩).
It was the perfect fit for a health and wellness company.
• The exercise science piece helps me speak to our audience with real understanding of wellness trends and behavior while being able to turn “science talk” into every day language.
• The marketing experience prepared me to build content strategies, write strong messaging, and manage our brand.
• And the therapy background taught me how to connect with people, understand motivation, and work well across teams.
Now I work full-time as a marketing manager where I handle:
• Social media content + strategy
• Print design for product sheets, event signage, & branded packaging
• Website updates + copy
• Tradeshow planning (with both national & international travel)
• Responding to press requests and interviews to help shape our brand voice
I am so happy I followed my gut and combined my passions to build my perfect Master’s degree.
