Workplace habits I started as a marketing manager

When I first started my job as a one person marketing manager, I didn’t realize how many little habits I’d pick up just to keep myself sane.

Now they’re basically non-negotiables:

📦 Trying customer products: anytime samples show up at the office, I have to test them. It’s one of the best parts of being in the supplement industry and reminds me why I love marketing products that actually help people. This TimeBeam Bounce Mode is AMAZING

📝 Two separate to-do lists: one for work, one for personal. Being a one-person marketing team means I juggle way too many moving pieces, so splitting my lists keeps me from losing track.

📅 Scaling up my to-dos: daily sticky notes for small tasks, then bigger weekly/monthly lists to keep campaigns on track.

These started as survival tactics, but now they’re just how I function. Funny how quickly your job rewires (or forces 🫣) you into a whole new system.

... Read moreBalancing a marketing manager role solo can be overwhelming, but adopting simple, effective habits can make all the difference. One habit that many find invaluable is maintaining two separate to-do lists: one dedicated strictly to work projects and deadlines, and another for personal tasks like bill payments and calls—this separation helps keep priorities clear and prevents tasks from slipping through the cracks. Another powerful technique is to scale your task management. For example, use daily sticky notes to capture small, immediate to-dos, and rely on your weekly and monthly plans for bigger-picture goals like campaign launches and content scheduling. This method not only keeps work organized but also ensures long-term objectives aren't lost amid daily urgencies. Beyond organization, trying out customer products firsthand can deepen your understanding and passion for the brand you represent. Sampling supplements or other items in your industry not only generates authentic marketing ideas but also continually inspires your work by reminding you of the value your products bring to customers. The OCR content reveals additional personal responsibilities such as submitting PTO requests, writing project summaries for staff meetings, and managing personal calls for bill and insurance payments—highlighting the multitasking nature of this role. Integrating these varied tasks into your system boosts efficiency and reduces stress, as handling both work duties and personal errands feels less scattered. Building these habits as survival tactics transforms them into non-negotiable parts of your workflow. They help advance focus, maintain motivation, and ensure no task is overlooked, critical for anyone managing marketing independently. Whether you’re in Minnesota or elsewhere, creating structure with clear lists and hands-on product knowledge sets the foundation for a successful marketing career.
