Guess my job: This wasn’t in my job description!

Yesterday I spent the day “playing” with blood. It was definitely a switch up from my typical day but after I had all the shots I needed, it was back to my comfort zone of editing the video.

Since this isn’t my normal day to day, it might be a little hard to guess my job title😂

I am technically a marketing manager! But… since I work at a company of 10 people, I wear more hats than I can count. Yesterday I got to play test subject, while recording the test for an instructional video we need.

Even though wearing all these hats can get exhausting, it definitely keeps me on my toes and helps me get amazing experience with things I’d likely never touch at a large company.

Do you play with blood in your marketing role? 😅

... Read moreWorking in a small company often means juggling diverse responsibilities, which is especially true for marketing managers like the author. Unlike their counterparts in larger organizations, who may have narrowly defined roles, marketing professionals in startups or small teams frequently wear multiple hats. This dynamic environment encourages adaptability and creativity. For instance, stepping in as a test subject for a project related to blood testing is not something you'd expect from a marketing role, but such tasks offer hands-on experience that enriches one’s professional skillset. Being involved in creating instructional videos is a smart move for any marketer looking to boost engagement and deliver clear communication to their audience. Videos are a powerful content medium, especially when they illustrate how to use medical or technical devices safely and effectively. The experience of undergoing multiple shots and documenting the process firsthand lends authenticity and a relatable human touch that scripted content often lacks. Moreover, the mention of "Capitainer BUI III" and other related terms in the image text suggests the instructional video was about a specific medical device or testing kit, possibly for blood sampling. Such content is vital in educating users to correctly perform tests, ensuring user safety and reliability of results. This type of marketing work showcases the growing trend of marketers collaborating closely with product teams to generate educational and user-centric content. It’s also worth noting that embracing unexpected tasks can greatly enhance career growth. Marketers who expand their skillset beyond traditional boundaries gain valuable insights into product features and customer pain points. This knowledge translates into more empathetic messaging and better-targeted campaigns. For professionals curious about similar experiences, embracing varied roles or projects outside your comfort zone can be incredibly rewarding. It not only adds richness to your workday but also strengthens your resume with unique, cross-functional expertise. Have you ever found yourself doing something surprising or unconventional in your day job? Sharing these stories fosters a sense of community and inspires others to embrace versatility in their careers.
