Departed from Bohol -> Cebu City
⛴️ Ride was about 2-3 hours. Departs quite on time. Get the business for more space and peace and comfortable ride. Not too bumpy ride. Entire process quite intuitive - just follow the queue/crowd or ask around. Cleared customs and all the fee paying within about 45 minutes.
Cebu City -> Maya Port (bound for Malapascua Island)
🚗 Car ride was about 4 hours total. Solid driver. We considered taking bus but it’ll be too hot and will take longer. Managed to even stop by for good lunch! Would recommend to book a driver in advance to avoid all the crowd and hassle when you reach Cebu City port trying to find a driver - bit chaotic.
Maya Port -> Malapascua Island
⛴️ About 30 minutes ride. Port closes around 5pm. Tickets bought on the spot. Needa pay those conservation fees etc also. Good to bring cash. Ferries run about every 30 minutes.
Thereon people usually get about by feet 🚶 or bikes 🏍️ within the island…or unless you’re 🤿

Based on my own experience, planning ahead is key to a hassle-free journey. I recommend arriving at the Bohol ferry terminal at least 1.5 hours early to manage check-in and terminal fees smoothly, as there are multiple counters to pass through but the staff is generally helpful and efficient.
Booking a business-class ferry ticket when crossing from Bohol to Cebu City significantly improves comfort, especially on the 2-3 hour ride. Business seats provide more space and a quieter environment, making the trip less tiring. Upon arrival in Cebu City, pre-booking a private driver for the 4-hour car ride to Maya Port is highly advisable. This avoids the chaotic search for transportation at the port, especially during peak times, and allows stops for a more enjoyable lunch break as I personally experienced at Lantaw Seafood and Grill, which serves fresh and affordable local dishes.
