Japanese artist that you should also listen too

2024/4/5 Edited to

... Read moreHaving been absolutely obsessed with Japanese music since my middle school days, I can confidently say that Japan truly produces some of the most gifted artists on the planet! If you're looking to dive deeper into the incredible world of J-Pop, J-Rock, and everything in between, you've come to the right place. I'm so excited to share some of my personal go-to artists that I think you'll absolutely love. First up, let's talk about Eve, a Japanese music artist whose unique voice and captivating music videos always blow me away. His style is super distinctive, often blending indie-rock with pop sensibilities, and his storytelling through music is just phenomenal. If you’re just starting, I highly recommend checking out "Chocolate town," "Bokurano," and "FightSong" — they’re fantastic examples of his genius. He’s definitely one of the top Japanese singers out there right now! Then there's LiSA, an artist I adore for her incredibly powerful vocals and her amazing contributions to anime soundtracks. She’s truly a force of nature! Her energy is infectious, and her songs often pack a real emotional punch. You absolutely HAVE to listen to "Gurenge" (from Demon Slayer), "Crossing field" (from Sword Art Online), and "Now and future." These tracks showcase her range and why she's such a beloved Japanese artist. And how can we talk about Japanese music without mentioning YOASOBI? This duo has taken the world by storm with their novel-based music concept. Every song feels like a mini-story brought to life with vibrant melodies and distinct vocals. Their global hit "Idol" is an absolute must-listen, but don't stop there! Also check out "Romance" and "Monster" to truly appreciate their unique sound. Another artist who has completely captivated me is Ado. Her enigmatic presence and incredibly versatile, powerful vocals are just mesmerizing. She rose to fame with her viral hit "Usseewa," and from there, she's only continued to impress. Make sure to listen to "Odo," "Gira Gira," and "Crime and punishment" to experience her incredible range and impactful delivery. Now, for someone with a truly distinct sound, meet Kenshi Yonezu. He's an absolute icon in the Japanese music scene, known for his unique compositions and thought-provoking lyrics. His music often has a raw, experimental edge that makes it stand out. You probably know his mega-hit "Kick back," but also give "Loser" and "Kanden" a listen to understand his artistry fully. If you prefer something a bit more soulful and jazzy, Fujii Kaze is your guy. His smooth vocals and blend of R&B, jazz, and pop are incredibly refreshing. He’s got this cool, laid-back vibe that’s just irresistible. My top recommendations for him are "Matsuri," "Michi Teyu Ku," and "Shinunoga E-Wa." You’ll thank me later! Don't overlook Yoh Kamiyama either. His music often has a dreamy, atmospheric quality with memorable melodies that just stick with you. He’s fantastic for those chill, introspective moments. Dive into his world with tracks like "Cut," "Yellow," and "Itokousui." They’re perfect for discovering a new kind of Japanese music vibe. And for a touch of nostalgic punk-rock energy, Tommy heavenly6 (or Tommy february6) is an artist whose distinct style always brings a smile to my face. Her songs are catchy, edgy, and full of personality. For a blast from the past, or just some fun, high-energy tracks, try "Lonely in Gorgeous," "sEpia memory," and "PAPERMOON PIZZA." Her music is truly iconic. I really hope this helps you discover some new favorite Japanese artists and songs! There's so much incredible talent in Japan, and this is just a tiny peek. Happy listening, and let me know if you find any new gems!
