Reposting my fandom/DNI List from TikTok

Hey everyone! I often get asked why I use a 'DNI' or 'Do Not Interact' list, especially in my fandom circles, and I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences here. It's really about curating a safe and positive corner of the internet for myself and the communities I love, whether it's for Undertale, FNAF, Omori, Pokemon, or Digimon. Think of it as setting boundaries, just like you would in real life. For me, creating a DNI list isn't about being exclusive or mean-spirited; it's about protecting my mental well-being and ensuring my online interactions are genuinely enjoyable and respectful. I've found it incredibly helpful for navigating the sometimes overwhelming world of online fandoms. My list, which I initially shared on TikTok, helps others understand who I’m comfortable engaging with and, more importantly, who I prefer to avoid. So, what goes on a DNI list? I like to break it down into 'green flags,' 'yellow flags,' and 'red flags,' much like a traffic light system for online interactions. Green Flags: My Kind of People & Content! These are the things that make me genuinely happy to interact with someone. If you're into fandoms like Undertale, FNAF, Omori, Pokemon, or Digimon, we probably have a lot in common! I also love connecting with artists – their creativity is inspiring. Essentially, anyone who is genuinely kind, respectful, and not toxic fits into my 'green flag' category. These are the people who contribute positively to the community and make online spaces fun. Yellow Flags: Proceed with Caution These are the nuances, the things that aren't immediate deal-breakers but might make me pause. For instance, I've noticed people who block others purely because of 'like spam.' Seriously, why? It seems a bit harsh to me. Another 'yellow flag' for me can be 'the loud 10% of fandoms' – you know, the ones who dominate discussions, sometimes with negativity, and make it hard for others to participate. While I might not immediately block someone for these, it makes me think twice about engaging deeply. It's a reminder to myself to observe and understand their overall online behavior before fully diving in. Red Flags: Absolutely Do Not Interact Now, these are the non-negotiables. These are the behaviors and beliefs that I simply do not tolerate and will lead to an immediate block. My goal is to create a safe space for everyone, and certain attitudes directly undermine that. This includes: Racists, Homophobes, Transphobes: Any form of LGBTQIA+-phobia, really. There's no place for hate or discrimination in my online world. Everyone deserves respect and safety, regardless of their identity. Incest/Proshipper Enjoyers: This is a firm boundary. Promoting or enjoying harmful, non-consensual, or illegal relationships under the guise of 'shipping' is unacceptable. 'Art Lore' that promotes hate: Sometimes, people try to justify hateful views through fictional 'lore.' If it's used to spread bigotry, it's a red flag. Creating your own DNI list is really empowering. It’s a tool for self-preservation in the digital age. It allows you to set clear boundaries, communicate your expectations to others, and ultimately, cultivate an online environment where you feel comfortable and genuinely enjoy your interactions. It takes courage to say what you won't tolerate, but it's crucial for mental health and fostering true community. My advice? Think about what makes you feel safe and respected online, and don't be afraid to clearly state your boundaries. It truly makes a difference!
