Carry-on Essentials🧳(and things you might forget!

I am doing some traveling! Here are some things I will be keeping close by in my personal item bag.

✈️As well, I am sharing some things that I have in the past! I am actually visiting relatives, so don't have to worry about towels/sunblock/toothpaste etc, but the list on the final slide is inspired by things I mayyyy have forgot in trips past 🙈

📖 Really I use airport and flying as a challenge to see how much reading I can get done! I am on a kind of long book rn, but hopefully I can finish (or at least get close). I plan to share a good reading update for the month of March.

💬 What have you forgotten to pack before?

... Read moreOkay, so we all have our core carry-on essentials, right? But after countless trips and a few "oops" moments, I've learned that sometimes it's the little things, or the why behind them, that truly make a difference. I've definitely been there, realizing mid-flight I forgot something crucial! Let's talk about the dreaded phone charger – or rather, the lack of one when you need it most. I used to just toss my charger in my checked bag, thinking, "I'll be fine until I get to the hotel." Big mistake! Now, a portable power bank and my phone's charging cable are non-negotiables in my personal item. Imagine your flight gets delayed, or your Uber app dies right when you land. Having that power is a lifesaver. I also keep a multi-port charger if I'm carrying multiple devices like an e-reader or wireless earbuds. Organization is key here; a small pouch for all cables saves so much fumbling. Another category I've wised up on is personal care and skincare. While visiting family means I don't need a full kit, on other trips, forgetting my favorite moisturizer or my toothbrush feels like a small tragedy. I've learned to always pack a travel-sized toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste, even if I think I'm covered. And for skincare, decanting my must-have serums and cleansers into TSA-approved clear bottles has changed the game. No more sad, dry airplane skin! Don't forget a small hand sanitizer (which the OCR also picked up on as an essential!) – public transport can be germy. And SPF, like sunblock, is not just for beach holidays. Even city exploring can expose you to a lot of sun, so a small stick or travel-sized bottle is always in my bag, especially if I'm connecting through a sunny location. And speaking of comfort, while my e-reader is always with me for those long reading sessions, I've found a few other small items make a huge difference. A soft eye mask and earplugs can turn a noisy, bright cabin into a peaceful escape. And a light scarf or compact travel blanket for when the cabin gets chilly is a true game-changer. What about clothes? An extra pair of socks is on my "don't forget" list largely due to unexpected layovers or just cold feet on the plane. But I've also started adding a spare pair of underwear and a lightweight t-shirt. You never know when luggage might get delayed, or spilled coffee happens! It's a small space commitment for huge peace of mind. Finally, important documents! This might sound obvious, but I always double-check my passport, ID, boarding passes, and any reservation confirmations are easily accessible. A digital backup on my phone and cloud, plus a physical copy in a separate place, gives me peace of mind. And don't forget a little emergency cash in local currency, just in case. These are just a few lessons I've learned the hard way. What are your non-negotiable items that you've learned to always keep in your carry-on? I'd love to hear your tips!
