🧪 Is lemon8 too toxic for artists?

💾 I had a post by J. White sitting in my saved folder for a while, because I really liked their highlighter art, and wanted to copy their idea and draw with highlighters myself!

🥲 But when I check back on their profile to finally start drawing, I see that they just posted about leaving the platform due to lack of engagement.

🍂 It's definitely sad to see... it's hard for artists to find a safe space on the Internet where they can thrive because algorithms only want to push certain things. On Instagram expecially, it's very hard for artists because there is so much oversaturation of content, and creators will get punished by the algorithm for not pumping out art posts every single day.

You start feeling unable to post what you really want ...

🗓️ for example, you get less motivated to take on a big month-long project, and instead only draw quick stuff because it means you can make more posts.

🌟 Or, I will feel the need to click bait somewhat, or frame my drawing as a tutorial so that more people will find it relevant.

😖 And sometimes it is annoying when the post that does the best numbers is not what I would want to post all the time!

🍃Ultimately, I try to free myself and put my experience and growth as an artist over what would attract the most social media audience. But it is a balance that I'm sure every artist online struggles with

🍋 Personally, lemon8 seems like the best platform that I can find at the moment. I really appreciate when you guys like and comment, and I find lots of interesting people here who are posting authentically.

... Read moreIt's so real what you shared about the struggles artists face on social media. I've definitely felt that pressure to constantly produce, or to create content that feels "clickbait-y" just to appease an algorithm. It can genuinely drain the joy out of creating art. That's why I've found Lemon8 to be such a breath of fresh air, and I wanted to share some of my own insights into why I think it's a fantastic, non-toxic space for artists to truly flourish. Unlike some platforms where it feels like you're constantly fighting for visibility against an endless scroll of similar content, Lemon8 seems to celebrate authenticity and genuine connection. I've noticed that the community here is incredibly supportive. When I share my latest pencil sketch or a vibrant highlighter drawing, the comments aren't just about the numbers; they're often thoughtful and encouraging, sparking real conversations. It’s a place where artists can find their tribe, get constructive feedback, and feel less alone in their creative journey. If you're an artist looking to make Lemon8 your creative home, here are a few tips I’ve picked up that might help you thrive and share your unique drawing ideas: Embrace the Process: Don't just show the finished product! People on Lemon8 love seeing the journey. Share your initial pencil sketches, how you layer colors in a highlighter drawing, or even the mistakes you learn from. Showing your "open sketchbook" moments really resonates. It makes your art more accessible and relatable. For instance, when I'm working on a piece with intricate curly hair or playing with warm orange and yellow tones, I love taking quick photos at different stages. Share Your Inspiration: What sparks your creativity? Is it a particular theme, a daily observation, or even just trying out a new medium? Sharing your personal drawing ideas or how you come up with concepts helps others connect with your work on a deeper level. It’s not about giving away your secrets, but sharing the magic behind your art. Connect Authentically: Instead of just posting and hoping for likes, take the time to engage with other artists. Comment on their posts, share what you love about their work, and build genuine connections. This isn't just good for "engagement"; it builds a supportive network that makes the platform feel less like a competition and more like a collaborative art studio. Experiment with Niches: Lemon8 is great for exploring different art styles. Whether you're into intricate pinterest face sketch ideas or dynamic pinterest body drawings, there's an audience for you. Don't be afraid to try new techniques, like that cool highlighter art you saw, and document your learning process. It’s all part of your unique artistic voice. Focus on Joy, Not Just Metrics: This is probably the most crucial lesson. While it's natural to want your art to be seen, try to recenter your focus on the joy of creation. Post what you genuinely love to draw. If a particular drawing or sketch brings you happiness, share that enthusiasm. That genuine passion is what truly attracts a positive, engaged audience. Lemon8 truly offers a refreshing alternative to the "toxic drawing ideas" or the relentless pressure of other platforms. It's a space where your art, whether it's a quick sketch or a detailed piece, can find appreciation. Keep creating, keep sharing your amazing work, and let your unique artistic journey inspire others!

i see a lot of people who aren’t artists on here attacking beginner artists.. lemon8 is definitely not the BEST place to post art, but i feel like it could be if more artists were made known about the platform. also i love the colors of the highlighters in your art it looks so bright and fun!!
