Starting my $3,000 saving challenge
Starting my savings journey to get my car soon! In just three short months I’ll have it!
Also, first post, Heyy
Okay, so you've seen my post about starting my $3,000 savings challenge, and you might be wondering, 'How am I actually going to pull this off in just three months?' Believe me, I'm asking myself the same thing, but I've got a plan forming, and I'm excited to share it! This isn't just about saving for a car; it's about proving to myself that big goals are totally achievable with the right strategy. First things first, let's break down that $3,000. Three months means roughly 12 weeks. To hit $3,000, I need to save about $1,000 each month. That sounds like a lot, right? But when you break it down further, it's about $250 a week, or roughly $35 a day. Suddenly, it feels a little less intimidating. This is where my digital savings tracker comes in super handy! The one I'm using has 12 boxes, one for each week, and I'm assigning specific dollar amounts to each box. Seeing "one down, 11 to go!" each week is going to be a huge motivator. So, how am I planning to find that extra cash? I'm focusing on two main areas: boosting my income and slashing my expenses. Boosting My Income: I've started looking into small side hustles that fit around my schedule. This could be anything from selling old clothes and electronics I no longer need (hello, decluttering bonus!) to offering services like pet-sitting or dog-walking in my neighborhood. Even signing up for online surveys or doing some freelance writing in the evenings can add up. The goal is to funnel every extra dollar directly into my savings account. I’m thinking about setting a minimum daily or weekly side income target to make sure I’m consistently adding to my fund. Slashing My Expenses: This is where I'm getting really strict. I’ve taken a hard look at my spending habits over the last month. Do I really need that daily coffee shop run? Probably not. Those small purchases add up incredibly fast. I've committed to meal prepping at home, bringing my lunch to work, and cutting down on unnecessary subscriptions. Even things like finding free entertainment (parks, libraries, free online classes) instead of paid activities can make a huge difference. I'm also challenging myself to use what I already have – cooking with ingredients in my pantry, wearing clothes I haven't touched in a while, and even trying DIY solutions for things I’d usually pay for. Every time I resist an impulse buy, I picture that money going straight into one of those 12 boxes on my tracker. The key for me is staying accountable. That's why sharing this journey here on Lemon8 is so important! I'll be updating you all on my progress, the wins, and probably some of the struggles too. Using a visual tracker, whether it’s a printable one or a digital spreadsheet, makes the goal feel much more tangible. Filling in those dollar amounts and watching the progress grow is incredibly satisfying. My first box is already colored in, and seeing that "one down, 11 to go!" has me pumped for the next week. If you're also trying to save a big chunk of money fast, whether it's $3,000, $5,000, or even $3,500 in 3 months, I hope sharing my approach gives you some ideas. It's all about breaking it down, finding ways to earn a little more and spend a little less, and consistently tracking your progress. What are your best tips for saving quickly? I’d love to hear them!
