i couldn’t put it down!
even though i DID have to work on my work trip to Costa Rica, my book was pretty darn captivating, too.
i read The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa. it’s a standalone fantasy (omg we need more of those) following a young oppressed Carrier named Amir. he’s forced to painfully transport spices across magical Gates to eight far-flung kingdoms.
what follows is a story about standing up for yourself & fighting back, interegating old traditions, and caring for your family. (and a bit of romance, too.)

The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa is more than just an enthralling read; it presents a complex narrative woven into a rich tapestry of fantasy filled with intrigue and adventure. The world-building is outstanding, taking readers through magical Gates that connect eight kingdoms, each with its unique culture and challenges. Amir, the protagonist, is an oppressed Carrier whose journey highlights critical themes such as the fight against oppression, breaking free from oppressive traditions, and the importance of family and personal sacrifice. The book’s captivating plot ensures that readers are not only entertained but also challenged to reflect on deeper societal issues. The blend of fantasy elements, alongside a touch of romance, enhances the story's richness and makes it resonate with a diverse audience. For those seeking more standalone fantasy books with similar themes, consider exploring titles such as The House in the Cerulean Sea or Ocean's Echo, which also present magical worlds with profound and meaningful narratives. Whether you're a long-time fantasy lover or new to the genre, The Spice Gate promises an experience that is both engaging and thought-provoking.
