the most romantic bookstore

i have a secret that’s not really a secret: i’m not a romance reader!

BUT i don’t think anyone could walk into the ripped bodice and not all in love. the store is beautiful and there are charming little details everywhere (and so many fun spots to take photos).

i had a great time browsing, and i even picked up the next book in the locked tomb series! it’s definitely not a romance, but they had an eclectic table in the back of the store where employees put all of their non-romance faves.

The Ripped Bodice
2024/6/20 Edited to

... Read moreLet me tell you, when I first heard about The Ripped Bodice, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not typically a huge romance reader, but the buzz about this place in NYC was undeniable. And oh my goodness, it absolutely lived up to the hype and then some! From the moment you step through the entrance, you're enveloped in this incredible 'romantic bookstore aesthetic.' It’s not just a store; it’s an experience. The walls are literally covered in open books, and there are these charming decorative archways with greenery that make you feel like you've walked into a whimsical literary dream. Seriously, every corner is a photo opportunity, making it a perfect spot for a 'romantic bookstore date aesthetic' with a book-loving friend or partner. What surprised me most was the sheer variety, even within the romance genre. While it’s primarily a romance-only bookstore, they curate such a diverse collection. You'll find everything from sweet, heartwarming tales to seriously 'spicy books' that will make your cheeks flush! They have shelves dedicated to popular 'romance series books,' and I spotted so many titles that fall under the 'romantasy' umbrella – perfect for those who love a blend of fantasy and romance. If you’re looking for 'romance book recommendations,' you could spend hours just browsing their meticulously organized sections, including those focused on 'NYC set romances.' And here’s a little secret: even if you’re like me and sometimes stray from pure romance, they have an 'eclectic table' in the back where the staff shares their non-romance favorites. That's where I found my copy of *Nona The Ninth*, which was a fantastic surprise! This shows they truly cater to all readers, even while championing the romance genre. One of the things that truly stands out is the bookstore's welcoming and inclusive vibe. You can't miss the large floral rainbow flag adorning a wall, a beautiful symbol of their 'super queer-friendly atmosphere.' It’s located at 218 5th Ave, Brooklyn, and knowing it's such an accepting space just adds to the overall positive 'novel vibe romance' that permeates the air. It’s a place where everyone can feel comfortable exploring stories of love in all its forms. If you're on the hunt for 'good romance books to read' or simply want to immerse yourself in a truly enchanting literary environment, you absolutely have to visit The Ripped Bodice. It's more than just a 'book store near me' if you're in NYC; it's a destination that sparks joy and reminds you of the magic of storytelling. Whether you're a seasoned romance aficionado or a curious newcomer, you'll leave feeling inspired and perhaps, with a new favorite book in hand.
