what are your best petsitting tips?

this is Bella, a super cute cat i’ve been petsitting this week! she’s 16 years old, her sight doesn’t seem great (looks like cataracts to me), and her owner doesn’t go away a lot. so she was feeling a bit shy.

luckily, with some patience and lots of love, she totally warmed up to me by the end of the week. 🥰 she loved watching Jeopardy together, playing with her favorite toys, and getting lots of head rubs!

Trust-building is essential for a successful petsitting experience, and understanding a cat's body language can help. Typically, shy cats take time to adjust to new caregivers. Strategies include giving them space, allowing them to initiate interaction, and using gentle play with their favorite toys. Creating a routine is also beneficial, such as sticking to feeding and playtime schedules, which can provide a sense of security. Providing cozy resting spots can help them feel more relaxed. Gradually introducing new experiences, like watching television together or gentle head rubs, can help strengthen the bond. Incorporating these strategies not only helps the pet feel comfortable but also enhances the overall petsitting experience, creating a joyful time for both the pet and the sitter. Don't forget to document the bonding journey through photos or journals, which can also help future petsitters. Tips like these can transform the petsitting experience into a delightful companionship rather than just a task!

It’s definitely different for each cat but just have patience, always show up and interact with the cat and they will open up little by little.
