why i cancelled all book box subscriptions

i admit it: i was influenced into a few book box subscriptions! seeing videos of people doing monthly unboxing and looking at the special editions and little knick knacks made me SOOO jealous.

but now i’m unsubscribed to all of them, and i don’t regret it one bit. i feel a lot less stress about clutter (i don’t need another mug!) and i get to be more intentional about the books i’m buying. i still get special editions, but i just buy them secondhand. and that way i’m only collecting special editions of books that i know i love!

are you part of any book box subscriptions? why or why not?

... Read moreIn recent years, book box subscriptions have become exceedingly popular, often marketed as the ultimate experience for book lovers. However, many subscribers find themselves overwhelmed by the extra clutter that these subscriptions generate. As I unwrapped my monthly packages, the excitement quickly turned into anxiety, with each box containing yet another mug or trinket I didn't need. Moreover, the constant influx of books led to an unmanageable collection, making it difficult to appreciate the ones I truly loved. This prompted me to reconsider the purpose and value of my reading habits. I realized that the allure of curated boxes wasn't worth the cost when I could be more intentional about my purchases. By shifting my focus to secondhand bookstores and online marketplaces, I could seek out special editions of books I had genuinely enjoyed. This commitment not only reduced unnecessary clutter but also allowed me to curate a collection that reflected my true tastes and interests. For those contemplating whether to keep or cancel their subscriptions, it may help to assess your reading preferences and lifestyle. Are the extras adding joy, or simply taking up space? Additionally, consider exploring local bookstores or online swaps to maintain a thriving book collection without the baggage of unwanted items. Ultimately, meaningful reading experiences can be curated without subscribing to every box on the market!

I am not due to the cost. The books are gorgeous but I also want to be intentional with the books that I buy. I buy a lot of books due to the book recommendations you post!
