happy Pride month!! i love reading queer books in all forms, but speculative fiction has a special place in my heart. the weird, the magical, and the spooky elements always make me want to keep going.
here are two book recs with very different vibes - but that I really think you’re going to love! one is a more traditional fantasy, and the other is a weird monster romance horror blend. (also a novella, which is always a win in my book.)
lucha of the night forest is this bright and unique fantasy duology that has a big sister who will do anything to protect her little sister, dangerous bargains with gods, a magical spooky forest, and a town that is struggling with magical addiction. it’s a beautiful and striking story that tackles themes of community care.
but not too bold is a novella following the young woman who has just become the new keeper of the keys for a giant humanoid spider. she keeps eating her staff, and she has a thing for young, beautiful brides … this was a unique little story with themes of loneliness, isolation, and seeing the truth of someone else.
