every reader’s nightmare is being asked “what’s your favorite book?”. my answer changes constantly because i’ve read so many incredible books that have altered me in different ways, and i could never choose just one!
i won’t rank my yearly reads to matter how much you ask, but i will share two of my favorite books i’ve read in 2025 so far!
the maid and the crocodile is a standalone set in the same world as a duology i absolutely adore (raybearer). raybearer has a main character who is a leader and holds a lot of power, and i loved how this story was from a common person and we got a whole new side of this world!
i was confident i’d love the river has roots because the author also wrote one of my all-time favorite books. this is a lyrical folkloric piece that feels like a murder ballad, but in book form. SO moving and impactful in only a little over 100 pages.
