My first set of nails I did myself three years ago
When I first decided to try doing my own nails, I never imagined how much I would learn and improve over the years. Initially, it was all about experimentation—picking colors, learning how to apply base coats, and trying to perfect the shape. My first set was far from perfect; the polish was uneven, and the edges weren’t clean. However, looking back now, it’s exciting to see how those early attempts laid the foundation for my current nail skills. Over time, I discovered that the key to good DIY nail art is patience and practice. I started incorporating basic techniques such as layering thin coats rather than thick ones to avoid bubbling and speeding up drying with a fan or quick-dry top coat. Watching online tutorials helped me understand the use of different tools like dotting pens and striping tape, which added precision and creativity to my designs. Additionally, caring for my nails with regular moisturizing and cuticle oil has made a significant difference in the health and appearance of my nail beds, making polish application smoother. Experimenting with different styles—from classic French tips to bold and colorful designs—has kept the hobby exciting and motivating. For anyone starting their own nail art journey, my advice is to embrace mistakes as part of learning. Keep your tools clean, invest in quality products, and don’t rush the process. Most importantly, have fun expressing yourself through your nails—they are tiny canvases for creativity. Reflecting on my three years of DIY nail art, I realize it’s not just about the final look but the enjoyable experience of growth and self-expression.
