Okay, so you saw my initial post about finding 20 iPhones logged into my Google account? Seriously, it was a total facepalm moment! 🤦🏾♀️ I immediately thought, 'How did this even happen?' and 'Is my account secure?' It turns out many of us might have old devices, forgotten logins, or even suspicious activity we're not aware of. That's why I wanted to share more about what I learned and how to manage your Google account settings for multiple devices to keep everything safe and sound. First things first, why is this so crucial? Every device logged into your Google account has access to your Gmail, Drive, Photos, YouTube history, and a whole lot more. If an old phone you sold or a device you lost is still logged in, it's a potential security risk. And if you're seeing simultaneous login activity from places you don't recognize, like a 'New iPhone session from Acworth, GA, USA' (which I definitely saw!), it's a huge red flag! Here’s a quick guide on how to check and manage your devices: Go to Your Google Account: Open your browser and go to myaccount.google.com. Navigate to Security: On the left sidebar, click on 'Security'. Find 'Your Devices': Scroll down until you see the 'Your devices' section. This is where you’ll see all the devices currently logged into your Google account. Click 'Manage devices'. Review and Remove: Carefully look through the list. Do you recognize all of them? If you see any old phones, tablets, or computers you no longer use or don't recognize (like those 20 sessions on iPhone(s) I found!), click on the device and select 'Sign out'. This immediately revokes access for that device. It felt so good signing out of all those phantom iPhones! But managing devices isn't just about logging out. It's also about understanding your activity and privacy controls. I also dug into my Google Activity settings, which were quite revealing. Web & App Activity: Make sure you know if this is on or off. It saves your searches, sites you visit, and app usage. While it helps personalize your experience, some prefer it off for privacy. YouTube History: Similar to web activity, this records what you watch on YouTube. If you share an account, you might want to manage this carefully. Timeline (Location History): My screenshot showed my 'Timeline' was paused. This is a big one for location privacy. If you don't want Google tracking your movements, ensure this is set to your preference. Another thing I noticed was my 'My Ad Center'. My personalized ads on Google were turned 'Off,' which is how I prefer it. It's worth checking these settings to control how Google uses your data for advertising. You can often see examples of 'YouTube Viewed Ads On YouTube Homepage' in your activity, which shows how targeted ads can be. Reviewing this kind of activity can give you insight into your data usage. Finally, always make sure you have Two-Step Verification (2SV) enabled. This is your best defense against unauthorized access, even if someone gets your password. Every time you log in from a new device, Google will ask for a second verification step, like a code from your phone. Taking a few minutes to routinely check your Google account's device and security settings can save you a lot of headaches down the line.
