Spring forward

Many people find the transition to daylight saving time, popularly known as "spring forward," a bit challenging. Losing an hour of sleep can disrupt your body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, leading to grogginess and even oversleeping the next morning. For coffee lovers, this adjustment can feel especially impactful since morning caffeine routines are a crucial part of starting the day energised. From my experience, the first few days after the time change require some intentional adjustments. It helps to go to bed 15 to 30 minutes earlier in the days leading up to the change. On the morning of the switch, try to expose yourself to natural light as soon as possible to signal your brain that it’s time to wake up. Drinking your coffee a bit earlier than usual can also provide that necessary alertness boost. Additionally, keeping a consistent wake-up time throughout the week—even on weekends—helps your body gradually recalibrate. Some people find that light exercise in the morning helps overcome the sluggishness caused by the lost hour. If you struggle with oversleeping or feeling off-balance during the adjustment period, don’t worry—these symptoms usually pass within a few days as your body adapts.
