Rescuing the abandoned dog Nextdoor 🫶🏻

The story of rescuing Chance has touched so many 🫶🏻 Chance was abandoned Nextdoor shortly after Mother’s Day this year. My neighbors left and took five of their dogs with them and left Chance behind. I noticed and took action by immediately taking food and water. The SPCA abandoned the abandonment case i reported because a judge wouldn’t grant a warrant to go on the property. And rescues were too full. My county has no animal control. I had to step in and gain chances trust over the period of two weeks. I went every single day Nextdoor to feed him and sit with him to let him know i was there for him and wasn’t going to hurt him. Chance had definitely been through trauma, he had been in lots of dog fights and seemed to be abused by humans. He has so many scars on his body… his skin was in terrible condition; missing patches of fur. He was so terrified of me at first. I gained Chances trust & he finally walked Nextdoor to my home and now he is happy and on the road to recovery, he just started heartworm treatment. 🥹🫶🏻💙 dogs have feelings and it shows within these pictures. Chance is an amazing dog and is not aggressive in any way shape or form. Just scared of quite literally everything. He’s safe and loved forever now with us 🥹 #chanceandnova #fyp #dogtok #foryoupage

... Read moreRescuing an abandoned dog can be a deeply rewarding yet challenging experience. Chance’s story highlights not only the urgency of helping neglected animals but also the patience and dedication required to earn their trust. Many dogs abandoned in similar situations suffer from physical scars and emotional trauma, often showing fear toward humans due to past abuse or neglect. Consistent interaction—such as bringing food and water daily—helps these animals gradually feel safe and regain confidence. In cases where animal control services are unavailable or overwhelmed, community members sometimes must step up to provide critical care. Building a bond with a traumatized dog involves gentle presence and time. Avoid rushing interactions; instead, allow the dog to approach on their own terms. Signs of progress include reduced fear responses, wagging tails, and willingness to walk beside you. Heartworm treatment is an important step toward recovery for many rescued dogs. It requires veterinary supervision and patience, as the process can be lengthy but ultimately restores health. Additionally, scars and skin conditions often improve with proper nutrition and medical care. Chance’s journey from fear to security exemplifies why rescuing abandoned pets matters. Dogs possess deep feelings and the capacity to heal when shown love and kindness. Sharing such stories raises awareness about animal abandonment and inspires others to act compassionately toward vulnerable animals in their communities. If you find an abandoned dog, contact local rescues or shelters, and if unavailable, provide safe temporary care while seeking professional help. Every effort contributes to saving a life and fostering hope for a better future.

It always warms my heart to hear stories like this. I’m a weakling for hurt, sick, abandoned animals. I’ve had animals all my life and just like humans they come and go. You sir are what makes me believe in people over and over again. We must take care of these distressed animals. We’re all they got.
