It’s truly a bittersweet moment here in Frankfort, KY, as we prepare to say goodbye to our beloved Singing Bridge. The news of its replacement, while understood from a practical standpoint concerning safety and modern infrastructure needs, still hits hard. For me, it’s the countless commutes, the scenic views of the river, and that familiar, comforting hum. My biggest hope, and I know many Frankfortians share this sentiment, is that our state will allow the community to keep a piece of her, if they choose. Imagine having a piece of the original grate, a segment of the railing, or even sections of the structure repurposed in local parks or historical displays. It would be a tangible way to honor her legacy and allow a part of her to remain with us, even as a new bridge takes her place. It’s important to preserve these connections to our past, especially when they hold such deep sentimental value. This isn't just about losing a bridge; it's about the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for Frankfort. While the new bridge will undoubtedly serve its purpose, the Singing Bridge will forever hold a special place in our hearts and in the history of Frankfort, KY.
